The Workshop Kitchen
Nice restaurant with a warm decor and an open kitchen which adds character. It is part of the Power House Hotel in East Tamworth. Good menu with unusual dishes and a great selection of steaks. It is an overpriced restaurant for what they offer and compared to five star restaurants in major cities. The service is friendly and efficient.

This is one of the best restaurants our family ever ate at. We are discerning and deliberate eaters and had lunch on our way to Sydney and stopped here again for dinner 2 days later. Both times were shockingly delectable. These people know their dry aged steaks, sauces, sides…you name it. We would drive 2 1/2 hours just to eat here.

What a little decadent slice of fine dining right in the heart of Tamworth! The workshop kitchen (in fact the whole powerhouse hotel) is beautifully decked out in a rich and glamorous style. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the seating arrangements are very comfortable. The menu is best described as ‘fancy’ and would comfortably be served in any of the beautiful establishments somewhere like the Rocks in Sydney. The food is delicious and well proportioned.A lovely venue for a special night out!

Great service and incredible food, I had one of the best steaks I've ever eaten here and I work in the beef industry. The chef cooked it to perfection and the sides were all delicious. Great wine list and lovely to eat locally sourced produce. I'd highly recommend and will definitely be back on my next trip to Tamworth! Thanks again!

Very disappointed with the Powerhouse. While it has always been far from the cheapest night out for dinner we have always walked away saying it was worth the money and looked forward to goin back. Not tonight. Prices have increased dramatically and walked away believing we could have had the same experience and better service (waiter would be better off keeping his comments to himself) at any other nice restaurant in town. Lamb was lovely and cooked well, however a $70 steak was far from impressive. When we mentioned this to the staff that we enjoyed the lamb but were disappointed in the steak it didn't mean anything nor could they care. Was part of a group of five, had breads mains and dessert along with two bottles of wine and beers over $700.UPDATE I followed up today, after the powerhouse reached out for more information. The guest Service Manager was understanding and wanted to get my feedback. I felt like it was taken on board and not just lip service. Thank you for listening.

Wow, what an experience!Let me start from when we walked through the doors. We were sat at a table in a lovely room with great atmosphere by our lovely waiter, Liz. The lighting cast out a soft warm glow. After gazing through the menu, I ordered the cut of the day, a delightful, juicy, tender rump cap.The rump arrived at the table, from the moment it hit the cloth, I started salivating. The smell, the presentation, a cut of paradise.I sliced into it to be greeted by a perfect medium rare and juices bellowing out.I took a bite and ventured into the enchanting realm of perfection. A symphony of flavours in my mouth, telling a fairytale story. The velvety, creamy mash that accompanied this elegant cut of steak epitomised beauty and love. After the last morsel, I was dumbfounded and awestruck at how a meal could be so delicious.

Good food, good service, nice layout, good finishes. There's a lot to like about this restaurant inside the Rydges Powerhouse. Everyone knows what to do, gets their job done and the food was very consistent. I think for flavour the peppercorn sauce was the star of the show for me, closely followed by the mash which was creamy without being too rich. Steak was well cooked and marbling felt pretty even as I worked through the steak. Very light charcoal taste from the grill, overall very good. There's a very long wine / alcohol list (25 page menu) with everything from by the glass, local varietals and standard grape varieties to $2000 a bottle special editions. Probably would like to try the duck or beef ribs next time just to see how they do it as the steak was very good.
