Great park

I sat on the bench of this picturesque little alcove and as I kept to myself in meditation, an older German man approached in business wear and spoke exclusively Deutsch to me. Caught unawares, I managed what I perceived to be a convincing listening manner. I gauged that he was attempting to seek company, and thought me to be proficient in his language. I am not, and when he eventually presented with an overt interest in what I had to say after a chaotic one sided ramble - I spat out the words: Ich bin ein schmetterling (I am a butterfly) I was nervous and wanted to diffuse the interaction by being amicable. I learned the phrase as a young boy, and now as a 20 year old guy it seemed an apt response. Sure enough, he seemed slightly disgruntled by my playful insouciance and offered a begrudgingly optimistic auf wedersehen (goodbye) as he bustled away on the footpath. This interaction felt near mystical up until that point, and I like to imagine I had an understanding with him before I screwed it up. Were we a similar bunch? A pair of curious fools of similar temperament whose conversations would be intriguing if not for the language barrier? Or did we simply humour one another in some primitive game of imitation, like monkeys exchanging onomatopoeic gibberish. Anyway, the park was nice too 10/10
