Peter Walton Photographer & Artist

Peter is an excellent communicator and educator. His passion and experience in photography shines through in everything he does. I recently attended Peter's presentation on The Power of Pre-Visualisation"

Peter Walton recently gave a presentation at my camera club, being the Camberwell Camera Club, and below is an extract of the report on the night that I wrote for the club magazine. Ken SpencePeter's presentation on The Power of Previsualisation was outstanding. Peter is a professional photographer with many years of experience but he has always been and continues to be a very active camera club member. This is a unique combination that means he understands camera club members as well as being a seasoned professional in the art of photography. Importantly, he is not bored and jaded and his passion for photography, if anything, seems greater than ever.In his presentation Peter used the technique of showing us the scene as was in front of him on location and straight out of the camera. He then shared with us what he envisaged could be made of the image with some care and work both on site (by changing lenses or adjusting the angle of view and camera settings) and then when he eventually got the image into Photoshop.As to how the night went, this is an extract from the “thank you email I sent Peter the next day."Obviously

I have known Peter Walton for several years, and have attended a number of his photo-tours and presentations. Peter has a very quiet and relaxed approach to his work, he constantly amazes me with the fabulous images he captures and his knowledge of photography. His communication skills and ability to explain the way he approaches his photography in an easy to understand manner makes learning from Peter both pleasurable and worthwhile. I have learnt to adapt Peter's pre-visualisation approach to my own photography, something that I treasure and will remain with me always.

I first met Peter Walton when he was a leader on a trip to South West USA, an area of great natural beauty with many wonderful natural parks. It was inspirational having Peter with us.On our excursions he would photograph alongside the participants and was always ready to provide advice and answers to questions. In the evenings we had instructional sessions about developing our pictures. Peter encouraged us to make images that captured the inspiration we felt when lifting the cameras to your eyes, bringing out the best in each capture.Just watching Peter when he is taking a photo is instructional. He quietly observes, and he focuses. He doesn’t waste energy taking snaps he will not use. Peter will move a little this way or that and settle on an image that captures the essence of the scene.I have attended lectures where Peter has shown in-depth how he develops images from start to finish. All his efforts are directed to bringing the best out of an image, reducing distractions and highlighting the essence. He is one of the best instructors I have seen presenting on Photoshop. The software is complicated, but his lessons are well thought out and always presented in an easy and professional manner. He has a pleasant, easy demeanour and is always open to questions.Peter loves photography and his great skill comes through in everything he does. He is a master photographer, a great teacher and a wonderful companion on any photographic excursion. When you are with Peter, you learn to focus on the picture, not the pixels.

That was a fantastic presentation on Pre-visualisation at the Melbourne Camera Club the other night...I certainly gained a lot from the simple and effective communications approach that you took to keep us all captivated. A very well organised presentation. Keep up the good work in sharing your tremendous photography knowledge gained over many years of hard work !!
