There is plenty of signage to read through if you visit outside of the opening hours so you can still take in the soldier settlement history of the area. Highlights of the precinct are the imposing coat of arms on the train from the 1920 royal visit and the memorial statue to the soldier settlers and their families. The Armistice Way drive route needs to be signed better though, as after leaving the Legacy Centre to explore the rest of the area we got lost and ended up where we started within minutes.

Unexpected to find this spot. Sadly, my great uncle did not come back from France, but he fought near Amiens and I felt connected to the history of this legacy centre. Very grateful to those who built and maintain this centre.

We did an escorted tour. The volunteers have done, and are continuing to do, an excellent job in establishing and running the centre. It was very interesting. Also, it's worth having a go at the alluvial tin mining which the kids will love.

Aimed to be here for picnic lunch. Which we were, but there are no picnic tables with shade. So we sat on the steps. But, as a volunteer of southern downs steam railway, it was a pleasure to see one of our old carriages restored. Well done.

A small legacy but a very generous small community has established this site in the middle of the Amiens Route just north of Stanthorpe. It commemorates Australian military service in the Great War by identifying many locations with the battlefields of Western Europe. A sobering drive well worth while in the midst of orchards and vineyards in a soldier settler location.

Sadly it was closed on the day that we were still. Still there was enough to see on the outside to keep us interested. Will hopefully go back one day when it's open
