From the fabulous name, The Last Hurrah Funerals, to a small independent company catering for people who may choose to do things a bit differently but want to be treated with kindness and compassion, these ladies tick all the boxes.We knew we wanted a no fuss funeral and The Last Hurrah were one of the few companies to offer this service. Everything was dealt with quickly and efficiently in what was a very stressful time.To having a cry in the office and being comforted by Steve the kitten and to the future tree planting ceremony Kimba and Stass have it all covered. We had the most wonderful experience with The Last Hurrah Funerals. Kimba and her team stepped us though some of the hardest weeks of our life gently & with great compassion. From our first conversation we felt at ease and the team continued to go above and beyond to not only help us create the most fitting, personalised send off for our much loved mum but also all the admin you don’t think about. After the service we had lots of compliments and have had many people since ask about who we used. We will be forever grateful for how they helped us though this time. Can’t speak highly of enough of this gifted team.

My heartfelt personal thanks go to Kimba and the team at Last Hurrah funeral directors who led two special ceremonies for my girlfriend Lynn of almost 40 years and for other friends who knew Lynn even longer, on what ended up being the first day of Melbourne’s 4th lockdown. We were able to go ahead confident that everything was in place for a beautiful and special private witnessed cremation at Fawkner followed by a memorial celebration of Lynn’s richly multifaceted life at 75 Reid Street. We were always planning to have livestreaming at the memorial so that those from afar could join us including pre-recorded tributes from Dublin and London, but when Melbourne’s lockdown 4.0 eventuated, the livestreaming meant we were able to share a beautiful memorial ceremony with live music, photo slide show and many tributes from the venue with those near as well as afar.Our situation was somewhat unusual as my girlfriend Lynn was the person longest in Last Hurrah’s care to date. Suffice to say, it’s been quite a journey these last three months, but an absolute pleasure navigating this with Kimba and the Last Hurrah team on Lynn’s behalf. Lynn had left very detailed funeral arrangements, and I’m delighted we were able to achieve so many of them starting with engaging a Funeral Director that was female-operated and, in this instance, female-owned as well. My partner John made Lynn’s casket in accordance with her funeral arrangements – black on the outside and purple on the inside (pictured below) – and together with her requested purple flowers on top (thank you Art Stems) it was a stunning departure for Lynn in the Last Hurrah white Cadillac hearse just back from repairs. Kimba had forewarned me the Caddy might not be possible, but Lynn would not have minded the alternative of a black hearse.This was our second Last Hurrah funeral this year as we were firstly introduced to what I consider to be the ‘very beautiful Last Hurrah option’, at John’s niece Melissa’s funeral earlier this year … we walked away from that saying that was so magical, special and beautiful we both agreed it would be our first choice for us when the time comes and then dear Lynn died and it was brought forward as our funeral directors of first choice. We had the most beautiful funeral and paid homage to my partner Lefty and my girls dad with The Last Hurrah Funerals, they did an amazing job and everyone at the funeral said it was beautiful and a perfect way to see him off. I would definitely recommend them to anyone in these circumstances, they were willing to grant all of our wishes for the celebration of his life to share with our friends, colleagues and family. We chose The Last Hurrah Funerals as it was clear from our first conversation that they wanted to get to know our mum's personal story so that they could tailor the service in a way that honoured our mum's unique life. Kimba, Stass and the team were incredibly sensitive, considerate, empathetic and attentive. They were able to guide us through the process and difficult decision making along the way. The service was truly a wonderful event that celebrated the life of our mum in the most personalised way.
