Mt Buninyong
If you're looking for a scenic and enjoyable outdoor experience, Mount Buninyong should be on your list. With its breathtaking views from the summit, excellent hiking trails, and fascinating history, this natural wonder offers something for everyone. The lookout at the summit of Mount Buninyong is undoubtedly the highlight of any visit. From the top of the Mt Buninyong Tower, you'll enjoy stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside, including the Grampians and Mt William, which can be seen on a clear day from over 130 kilometers away. Whether you're a photography enthusiast or simply looking to take in the natural beauty of the region, the lookout is not to be missed. For those who prefer to explore the mountain on foot, the hiking trails at the base of Mount Buninyong offer an enjoyable and easy 4.2-km loop trail with an elevation gain of 148 meters. The trail is well-marked and suitable for hikers of all skill levels and takes an average of 1 hour 14 minutes to complete. During quieter times of day, you can also enjoy some solitude on the trail.Visitors to Mount Buninyong can also appreciate its rich history. The mountain was once the spiritual home of the Keyeet Balug clan of the Wathaurang people, who inhabited the region for thousands of years before European settlers arrived in the early 19th century. While an aboriginal burial site was located in the 1860s, there has yet to be an archaeological survey carried out.In terms of facilities, the summit of Mount Buninyong has public toilets, covered and uncovered picnic areas, and a small amount of parking for around 8 cars. Parking is also available at the trailhead located at 215 Blackberry Ln, Buninyong VIC 3357. The mountain is easily accessible, being a 20-minute drive from Ballarat or a 1 hour and 20 minute drive from Melbourne.Overall, Mount Buninyong is an excellent destination for anyone looking to enjoy the natural beauty and rich history of Victoria. With its stunning views, well-maintained hiking trails, and convenient location, this mountain should definitely be on your list of must-see destinations in the region.

This quite a climb - not for the faint hearted. The views from the top are stunning! I found out after climbing the tower that there are windmills around Ballarat. If you are visiting in winter - it will be cold because of heavy winds so make sure you are layered up. There is decent car parking - we didn't encounter much rush it thankfully, but I imagine it would be packed on a sunny day.

Scenic drive out of Buninyong up to the top of Mount Buninyong. Car park, toilets and picnic tables available. The lookout to the left of toilets (not signed) has a great view over Ballarat and into the distance. However, the tree canopy prevents views to the south and west.Walking tracks also in the area too.

Great view from the top of the tower. Definitely a good stop when you’re around the area. There are toilets just near the car park, but couldn’t spot a drinking fountain though.

Beautiful views and ambience.Very relaxing place to be.Very windy and cold at the top of the tower.Nice walks around the area.Toilets.Undercover table/seating area. Not wheelchair accessible unfortunately.Careful when driving up here as the dirt road gets slippery and muddy but fun to drive on.

Really great views, especially from the lookout tower (which was higher than we thought!).There's plenty of parking at the top and most people have a relatively short visit there. The lookout tower is a few minutes from the carpark, and there's plenty of steps to the top (but the views are definitely worth it!).There's also public toilets and picnic areas near the carpark.Dogs are allowed too which is great, but you might need to carry them up/down the lookout tower steps!

The tower has got a stunning view from the top. It'll take some effort to go through all the stairs and to the top of the tower, but the nice view is definitely worth it. If you are planning to visit it during autumn or winter, be prepared for strong cold winds.

Good lookout point. Easy to go up and just a few flight of stairs to the top of the lookout tower. Beautiful view.
