First-time Park Run…Registered the day prior and was able to bring barcode for the run time/details on completion. Was met kindly by the race-director who indicated a first-timer brief would be provided 10 mins prior to the race.Track was well laid-out, the brief was short but informative and overall the run was managed superbly…Given the beautiful location, this is a great run - great support and friendly event.Highly recommended.

Classic parkrun in a fantastic location. Great atmosphere and good for a cooling swim in the ocean after.

I journeyed across seas of fire and brimstone in my Honda Jazz to get here from all the way up north to do this 5km run along the foreshore. Three people died trying to make the journey, I was the only one to make it. If you don't hear me talking for a while, assume I've been eaten by sharks or something. The race is called the Rockingham Parkrun – the first one ever set up outside England, as far as we know. This parkrun has been running every Saturday morning since November 2014, with an average attendance of over 200 runners each week and growing steadily. It's not just about the numbers either: there are now 29 other parkruns operating under the banner of Rockingham Parkrun – all within a 70-minute drive from Perth – which means that if you're thinking about doing your own weekly training run, then there's no excuse to be running alone. The course is a simple out-and-back with a turnaround point at the halfway mark. You can choose whether to go straight back to the start line after completing your 5km, or head off on another 5km loop round the lake before heading back to finish. The track is well-maintained and paved so suitable for most types of footwear. There are toilets available at the start/finish area but none at the turnaround point. As I got closer to the race location, I could see hundreds of people milling around in front of the beach. At the sound of the starting horn, they started to move forward towards the start line, where I joined them. Most parkruns have a nice relaxed atmosphere: people chatting, stretching, having a few words with friends, and generally enjoying themselves. But today wasn't like that. Everybody seemed quite serious, heads down, looking at their feet, concentrating. Nobody smiling; nobody laughing. We were all very focused on our task ahead: running 5km without walking. I failed immediately. My legs felt heavy and unresponsive to the command of my brain. They weren't responding to the beat of my music, nor to the voices of the people around me. I had a strong urge to stop moving altogether. As soon as the first 2km marker came into sight, I gave up and walked until I reached the turnaround point. From there it was easy to get back onto the track, although I still felt sluggish and slow. The last 1.5km were done in just over 12 minutes, which isn't particularly fast but considering how bad I felt when I stopped, it was a pretty good time.Despite feeling terrible, I stuck with the program and finished in 39:00. Of the 819 participants who ran today, I was in 902nd position. All in all a fantastic run, 5 stars.Wish me luck on my journey home.

Very well organised Park Run with a friendly community.Course is an in and out one which are never as good as a loop imo but it's along the sea all the way so not an issue here. Pretty flat throughout with bits of shade to help with the heat - definite PB potential here.
