This a nice found, the food is made fresh. They have fried food at the front, make sure to ask if they have more if the tray is empty. Around the corner is sushi. They make a number of noodle soups, I’ve been enjoying the Don Chilli Chicken. It normally takes about 10-15 mins to cook. The portions are good and the staff is friendlyThey also carry frozen Japanese treats, these rotate, so you may not see the same thing each week.

The most genuine Japanese on the coast! Great variety, fresh and tasty! Always busy, so often sold out of my favourites, takes a long time (because they're busy) to freshly prepare. That said, just enjoyed a very tasty bento box!

The service was quite fast and no fuss. We ordered Eel Bento set and it was very satisfying. The Japanese curry was nice too. It has outdoor seating so it's dog friendly.

This place was an amazing find. The food was perfectly cooked and was well priced. It’s quite a small, authentic Japanese restaurant but definitely worth popping in for some ramen, sushi, a donburi or other yummy items. Excited to come back soon for some more!

Got the grilled eel set. Absolutely fantastic, a good deal considering you also get tofu, noodles and soup. Their spicy chicken karaage is also great. Would recommend and will definitely be back.

Nice little place with Japanese vibe. All of our foods arrives fast and they're yummy! 1 star taken off because gyoza is a bit hard on the outside and takoyaki is not as fresh, you can tell they've been cooked and left on the display for a while. But the rice bowls are awesome, especially the sauce! Kaarage nice, crispy and flavourful. Overall nice portion and worth the price. Will be back when we're around the area again :)

Really bad experience of Japanese food ...We went around 6:30 for dinner...Restaurant doesn’t look busy ...we order ginger pork and chicken katue don..Taste was terrible...The pork only salty not even ginger taste ..Should be good balance between soy and sweet and full of ginger flavour ....but that dish was nothing ~ worst Japanese food ever ...And chicken deep fry ... I pretty sure chicken almost off ~!! I bite second one and stop eating... and also stinky smell came up .... it must be from dirty old oil .....For me I will never go back this restaurant...Sorry .... worst Japanese ....

My wife has managed one of the busiest modern Japanese fusion restaurants on the Gold Coast for years. We happily admit that Tama-ya is much better! Delicious, friendly, fun.

This place reminds me of those authentic tiny Japanese express restaurant in Japan. There’s only 12 seatings and you basically come here for a quick bite and go. There are some selection of ready cooked hot food (eg. Karaage, Okonomiyaki and Gyoza) as well as some ready made sushi rolls at the front counter. The lady at the front counter could do with a bit of smile but otherwise the older gentleman who sometimes served the food seems friendly and have pleasant smile. You basically help yourself with some of the selections of the ready made food, the cold drinks or green tea or miso soup and pay at the counter. You can also order the menu directly from the counter.Food wise, we have a bit of mix feeling. I like the Shoyu Ramen which have a good clear and a tiny sweet soy taste but not overpowering soup. Everyone loves the soup they ordered just not quite satisfied with the udon noodle. I guess this is like an Express concept so the food quality was compromised. But most importantly, we don’t have those thirsty after feeling which means no MSG was added to the food especially the soup. Oh, and don’t forget to return your tray (dirty dishes) back to the “Return Counter”.Overall we are quite happy with our dinner. Will we go back again? We have a few yes so, yes it is.

Super cute little restaurant tucked away amongst larger shops and cafes right near the M1. Great selection of Japanese dishes: we had ramen and a selection of sushi and it was all top notch. Very friendly staff and a homely feel to the shop. Will definitely be back.
