Patrick Hromas - Artist

This is a great exhibition I thoroughly recommend.The pictures appear in the artistic tradition of questioning the camera and the eye from the contemporary Australian artistic perspective in a global market. Robert Pippin of the University of Chicago mined similar themes recently in a free public lecture at Sydney University entitled ‘The Philosophy of Pictorial Modernism: Hegel and the History of Painting’. We are all Hegelians now, perhaps. The Hromas work appears amazingly relevant to the current global disintegration of European Empire under the onslaught of the connected media. Compare it with the Victoria and Albert monument and be amazed at the splintered outcomes rendered on the Hromas canvas. In regard to the global peripheries Hromas explores, one is also reminded of the question, perhaps, of black feminist crusader, Sojourner Doubt - 'Ain't I a stakeholder'? (Only at Christmas perhaps.)
