Spirit of Hervey Bay | Whale Watching Hervey Bay

I have been on the the Spirit twice, once with a Ukulele group for a sunset cruise, and another trip on a Mary River cruise. This big boat is very comfortable with lots of room on three decks. The crew are very courteous and friendly. The morning tea and lunch provided on the Mary River cruise was fresh and tasty. Would thoroughly recommend the Spirit of Hervey Bay.

This was my second trip out on this tour. The last time was October 2019 and the quality is just as good now as it was then. The boat is large and stable, with plenty of space to view. You can walk all around quite easily. The crew were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I will be back next season to see the whales again with this boat.

Thoroughly enjoyed our Whale watching tour. We went during August, early in the season, and were happy with the small number of people on board. This meant we were not having to fight others for the prime viewing position. The team were fantastic, and very knowledgeable, sharing information about the whales we were watching. We saw three different mothers and calves and a pod of about 5 adult humpbacks.

We did the afternoon whale watching cruise on Saturday (13/08/22) and had a fantastic time! The crew were so friendly and happy! Afternoon tea was supplied and there is also a kiosk with a variety of food and drinks and also souvenirs. It was a little tricky finding whales on this particular day, but the Skipper persevered, while keeping us well informed and then we found two beautiful whales! They stayed with the boat for ages, it was so much fun! There was plenty of room on the boat to view the whales, it was no trouble to have the room to take videos and photos. We even stayed out longer than usual because the whales stayed with us!Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we will be doing this again! We will also definitely go with the Spirit again, the awesome crew and fantastic boat made the cruise even better!!

Yesterday’s morning whale watching tour was amazing! Even though it’s the end of the season we still saw a very active mum and calf. Staff were very knowledgeable.

Very friendly, even excitable staff, who obviously enjoy their work, the boat is really well designed for whale watching and they have a good number of passengers for the size of the boat, i.e. small enough numbers that everyone gets to enjoy the experience. As an added bonus this boat even has underwater viewing windows which the whales seem to appreciate, swimming right up to them and, I assume, looking in at the passengers. There isn't a lot of room at these underwater windows so I didn't take the opportunity, but even then they provided everyone else a great opportunity to see the whales up very close, almost touching the boat. I'm no professional photographer but I've added a few snaps from my mobile phone. On the day of our trip weather was just about perfect. I would suggest if you are susceptible to feeling the cold you should wear warm clothing, and even bring a small blanket. I don't feel the cold so much, but it did start to affect my wife. We are planning another trip to take our family in the next few weeks so obviously I can highly recommend. As for accommodation I would suggest you read my review on Mantra Hervey Bay.

Our first whale watching experience and it was memorable. Plenty of whales seen and enjoyed our guide commentaries sharing the knowledge about these amazing creatures. Boat ride was comfortable and we didn’t get sea sick which is always a bonus. Trying to get good photo with my phone for me was like playing peekaboo. Moment I put down phone whale would breech out. So my advice just enjoy the ride

We had a great morning. Weather was perfect. Lots of room on the boat. Very knowledgeable crew. Morning tea was provided. Saw a few whales. Overall a pleasant experience

Friendly staff, great boat with plenty of space to move around. I went out 4 days on the boat and every day was great. Lots of breaching and tail slapping. Its a great experience getting up close to such big animals in the wild. Cheers.

10/10 amazing experience!! We saw a few pods of whales, and as the guide explained the bay is where a lot of the mother/calf pods have a bit of a rest during their migration so a great opportunity to watch them chilling out and teaching the calfs some interesting whale behaviour like fin slapping. I learned a lot about whales from the commentary from the crew, very interesting experience and so exciting to be able to spend so long watching the whales in action from so close! The boat itself is huge with heaps of space over the 4 levels, so not overcrowded at all, even though we went during school holidays. The crew were all very friendly and knowledgeable, and the afternoon tea was great.Overall this is a fantastic whale watching tour and I highly highly recommend!!
