Wonderful place to wander around and enjoy. We loved the zoo, easy to walk around. The lagoon was full of birds and very relaxing to just sit and take in the surrounds.

Please pay a visit you won't regret it. Zoo is free, it's in a lovely scenic setting. It isn't a full zoo but knowing this before we went did not build up our expectations. The chimps were funny to watch and it is worth sticking around for their feeding time and chimp talk at 2.45pm. There are other feeding times for the other animals too. Be sure to pick up a brochure at the entrance to see the feeding times. Please support the zoo by making a donation to the donation boxes dotted around the zoo.

If you're in Rockhampton then a visit to the Botanic gardens is a must. I would allow at least an afternoon, especially if you have kids. While you're there I suggest visiting the small zoo which is just next door and free. There's a good cafe under huge trees that attract rainbow lorikeets. They sell hot food, cold drinks and there's a souvenir shop. There's also a visitor information Centre and toilets. To reward the kids for all the walking around they'll be doing, there's a really good playground. The gardens themselves are huge with lots of different areas including a Japanese garden, tropical gardens and a war memorial. The gardens are amongst Australia's oldest at over 140 years old so there's lots of very mature trees. There's lots of lawns for picnicking but watch out for snakes!

This houses Rockhampton Zoo. Really great walk around, accessible ramps - would suggest comfortable walking shoes. Gold coin donation to enter, would be great if you took a picnic and spent the morning or afternoon.#rockhamptonzoo #botanicalgardens #meerkat #koala
