Laanecoorie Reservoir
Great place to kayak - wedge tails and sea eagles, ratan, fish (sometimes blue/green algee, but hey don't drink it + wash your hands and you'll be fine).

Nice little lake in the middle of nowhere, multiple places to launch your kayak. Trout, reddies and carp are your most likely catch. The mobile reception is very poor to non existent with both optus and telstra, can make it tricky if you get in trouble. It's a long walk to town.

I have been going here for decades. Its an ok fishing place at times but a bit limited access wise.I was disappointed after the 2010/2011 floods that they took years to reopen access below the spillway. And even when they did they replaced Zero Facilities that were damaged then. Used to be a small public toilet, nothing now so people just go behind bushes. Used to be bbq's, none now. Kids roundabout, nothing now. If this was near Melbourne or any major country town all of those things would have been replaced. Zero was spent on the restoration of this public reserve area. It used to be a stop point for people on day outings from nursing homes and the likes, now its mostly avoided as there are no amenities for them. Its pretty poor form and disgraceful really after all this time over a full decade! Yet we hear about millions being spent on parks and other things elsewhere. Shame on the Vic govt everywhere in the past decade. Its like us rural dont matter, actually, we dont. Now the Res itself. It used to be kept beautifully clean at the access areas, especially where the boat ramp is near the C/van park. Its now a disgrace. My wife and I when we go are sick and tired of picking up rubbish to put in the bins that are just meters away from the shoreline. We gave been there and done this a number of times, just the other day we were greeted with the sight of 15 dead rotted carp carcases that were so dried up it was apparent they had been there for weeks. This was right where people picnic and swim! We bagged and binned them. The previous park owners kept it super clean, not in the park I know but immediately next to it, but they cared and checked. Seems like caring by whomever is near this res is a thing of the past. Its not what it used to be here.Edit 24/7/2022Here are some recent pictures of the picnic bbq area there. Much of this rubbish has been there for over 4 months. Its an utter disgrace. That rubbish in the fire place has been there for months.Welcome to Laanecoorie.
