Bruhn Limestone

We visited the quarry in person from Melbourne, and supplied detailed floor plans and elevations. I was confident we'd receive an accurate quote. They didn't look at the elevations, instead applying a generic 3.5m height for every wall in calculating the quantities required. This shortcut led to underquoting the job, costing us an additional 50% on top of the price quoted. What appeared to be an affordable building material at first soon became exorbitant when considering laying costs on top (can be up to $200 psm).To resolve the situation, I proposed what I believed was fair - that we each wear the additional cost 50/50 (we'd still have to pay 100% of the additional laying of course). Instead Bruhn only agreed to wear 25%, and blamed our builder / stonemason for not picking up their mistake. They were in a position of power, as by this stage our house was already half built, and their limestone was the primary construction material. We couldn't take the risk of going to another supplier as the colour of the stone may have been markedly different at another quarry.So be aware, they are willing to provide a service to quote their product, but simultaneiously do not take any accountability for its accuracy. This may be fair for 5-10% slippage, but not in our case, where the additional amount was such that had we known prior, it would have clearly affected our decision making on whether or not to go with limestone.Reputation matters and it is heard here. Given that limestone is a natural product, there are of course other suppliers in Mt. Gambier. The mistake wasn't intentional, but it was inevitable. How they then responded to the mistake is why I give one star.

Nothing was too much trouble.Their network of stonemasons in various areas meant that they could recommend the best one in our area.As it turned out, he was one of the best anywhere!So many people - friends, neighbours, passers by and trades, have all made such favourable comments on our limestone. Our builder who is most fastidious, was also most impressed.We have had a great experience and would recommend Bruhn Mount Gambler limestone without hesitation.
