Frances Perry House - Maternity Hospital
Hi,I was just writing to provide some feedback about my recent care.I was admitted on the 4.5.23 for induction, my mother and sister were waiting in the waiting room, nurse was very abrupt and rude. The next day my I had an emergency C section which the doctor and nurses in the operating room were lovely.Unfortunately it all stated to go downhill from there on. As soon as I came out from recovery I had a nurse called honey who was very rough and rude to me and my visitors, even told my neice of 12 years old to leave the room as children weren't allowed she even made her tear up. I then had a nurse who asked me how I was feeling , when I replied i felt terrible she simply said yep like every other woman In the ward a very un necessary comment. I was then moved the next day to my room with my partner and baby. Some nurses were lovely , however most are tired burnt out.I was there for a total of 5 days and everyday I would almost have to wait 20 mins plus to wait for the nurse to attend my room for pain/medication relief. There was a whole day where no one checked on me until the next nurse started her shift !!!. I had to ask for them to clean my room, change the bed sheets as I had a c section. When i asked for breast pads I was told they had run out !!! ( you would think a private hospital would have supply)A nurse even gazed my childs head against the wall when she went to swaddle her didn't even apologise until I said something this was very daunting as a first time mother.Paid for private and i was very neglected ,frustrated when I complained all I got told was to email. So I leave my review here as I don't want other mothers going through this terrible experience save your time and money and go elsewhereThanks.

This was my second baby that I had at Frances Perry and my experience wasn’t great. The reason I chose Frances Perry was due to my obstetrician of choice delivering there. He was amazing, just a shame this is the only hospital he delivers at.As this was my second birth I was very much looking forward to staying at the Grand Hyatt like I had with my first but this was not available to me, from what I could gather there was not enough interest at the time. This was disappointing as the hotel program is a major draw card as to why many people choose to birth with Frances Perry.I spent 4 nights instead at the hospital. The rooms are small, the food is average and what made the stay worse was that my room was without a working toilet for over 24 hours even with multiple visits from maintenance. I was unable to move to another room until one became available. It is totally unacceptable to have a postpartum mother without direct access to a working toilet. I had to keep using the disabled one down the hall until I was moved into a new room.Compared to my last stay when they had the breastfeeding room, the breastfeeding support is almost non existent. I left the hospital feeling very unsure about my breastfeeding journey due to minimal support this time around. My room also felt like a hotel lobby with people continuously coming in to sell photo packages and get you to sign up to trials etc. it wasn’t until much later that I realised there was a ‘do not disturb’ sign I could have used.Something else that is terrible about Frances Perry is the lack of parking available. The hospital car park is always full and it makes it difficult when coming for appointments or for when people want to visit after birth.Overall, do not recommend.

Amazing care and service. Had a great experience delivering my baby here at Frances perry. All the midwives were extremely knowledgeable and understanding, available 24x7.View from the room and food was awesome! Cant recommend it enough.

I stayed here on level 6 for two months prior to giving birth, and I am forever grateful for the exceptional care and support offered by the nurses and midwives. I had a complicated pregnancy which was made that little bit easier knowing I was being well attended to by all staff. Nothing was ever a trouble for them, and I felt they always had me and bubs best interest in heart at all times. The kitchen staff were also very friendly and always had time for a chat and were very accomodating to different requests. The food was lovely as well.

We have come here twice now and I have to say we are pleased in general. The facilities are great, with state of the art equipments. The doctor we had was probably exceptional. The attention to detail and focus could not be faulted. There are also areas the hospital could improve on. We noticed all the Male doctors tend to walk in on the mum without knocking the door, even tho she might be breast feeding.

After going with the Royal Women's Hospital for our firstborn, we decided to try its private option, Frances Perry House, for our second. Every interaction we had with the hospital was virtually flawless. When you pay more for a private experience, you really notice the difference. When it came to being admitted, we were shown our birthing suite. It was spacious, clean and afforded us privacy without feeling like we were cut off from the rest of the world. Once bub was born, I was offered the option of staying with my wife and the newborn in our own room, something which isn't possible in the public system.Unlike the RWH, Frances Perry has better doctor and midwife ratios. They physically have fewer rooms and therefore can take fewer patients. I believe there were 25-30 rooms from memory. While you're there, you can take advantage of complementary breast pumps and a nursery, which is great to send your newborn off to so that you and the missus can catch up on some sleep. And the food... for me, it was a highlight. It tasted nothing like hospital food. You get a menu to fill in and hand back to the hospital staff. The food arrives on time. Honestly, it's better than some hotel food. One of the few criticisms we had for the hospital was that during the labour, the mother-to-be wasn't allowed to eat. The midwives stated that this was to avoid vomiting. Our question here is how do you push a baby out if your tank is empty? After staying for four nights, we were sad to go. With a new baby in tow, we headed home, knowing that we had just experienced one of the best maternity hospitals in Melbourne, if not in Australia.

2nd time here.Rooms are forever being ‘renovated’ do yourself a favour if you get allocated room 29. Ask for a transfer. The air conditioner noise is unbearable many of the nurses comment on it as well (maintenance came to look at it when our son was meeting his daughter for the first time we politely asked to give us 5minutes of private time) then we went outside with the baby to let him look at it he was trying to explain there nothing they can do (I wasn’t overly interested as I had more important matters and thanked him). It’s between 45-50db doesn’t seem like much but it’s enough to not be able to hear what your partner is saying in light conversation.Staff are great - though like most hospitals have issues with manning so they get in additional contractors ect to try cover the gaps.Food is ok to average - just typical hospital food. There are plenty of other options in the area though. In terms of birthing facilities and care - can’t fault it.So if it wasn’t for the air-conditioner/room I’d give it 4-5 stars but it’s reflective of our stay here at the time. Or and not to mention - forever being renovated.I’m sure the trades can take more care not to leave plaster everywhere. Here’s a tip for them, bag and tape up the rooms. Instead of vacuuming with the door open so it goes into the hallways with the babies (same went for level 6 on the surgery) plaster dust all over the floors being walked over and cross contaminating. No idea how it’s acceptable but that’s the FPH way. I guess the staff are all use to it as it’s been ongoing for over 2 years now.I thought I’d edit this review, the Hyatt is worth 5 stars. For a relatively smooth birth it’s an amazing experience. I wish we did it for our first. Though needed the extra care so we couldn’t.But I highly recommend FP, and going to the Hyatt asap. The rooms at FP are certainly at that 2 star mark. The Hyatt is 5 star.

Extremely disappointing experience having baby #2 here. I went to St Vincents for baby #1 and, by comparison, FPH was dreadful. I had expected the hospitals to offer similar experiences (and their websites/paperwork suggested this should have been the case) but my time at FPH was a mess and really tainted my in-hospital experience with baby #2. For the 4 nights I was in hospital post c-section, I was moved rooms 3 times with no explanation (and had to walk between rooms/levels, which was pretty painful to do at the time). On multiple occasions, the staff thought I was a different person with a different baby, and disclosed medical details to me before I had to object to the incorrect treatment/meds. They even sent me home with another patient's hospital records. Finally, our doctor advised he was happy for us to move to the Hyatt after day 1, but we were told the CEO of FPH had simply decided to close" the service and that "he does this". We chose FPH on the understanding that we would be able to move to the Hyatt for a much more pleasant experience unless there was a medical reason to stay; not simply because the CEO randomly chooses to "close" that option from time to time. Birthed here in 2021 and have to say it was the most unpleasant experience.I was induced early because my obstetrician went on leave, disgraceful I know. This ultimately led to a c section. Covering Ob was awful, he pushed for a c section of course. He didn’t care for my needs. This is the common sorry I hear from Frances Perry - unnecessary induction which leads to a c section. First red flag. The time in which I had been induced to going into theatre (10 hours), I didn’t see one midwife or obstetrician. This blew my mind. It’s as if no one was around. Nurses kept trying to push for an epi but no one even knew what was going on. The nurse was very rude and told me my support person SHOULD be here but I was told to send him home earlier.Theatre was the best experience there. Although, not great. I barely got any skin to skin before my baby was taken away. 2-3 minutes maybe. I have heard women in public getting to hold their baby while getting stitched. I wasn’t impressed when the Ob said we are doing a c sec - no real choice was given here. Mind you I had no one with me overnight to give me any indication what was going on. The ob used the good old scare tactic saying he wanted to deliver a live baby. Seeing how upset I was when they told me ‘I had to have a c section’ they didn’t make the experience special in any way.The next 5 days were awful. I was told multiple times that they were understaffed and full. I demanded a room with a double bed which they were reluctant to give us. I was then told I was ‘lucky’ to get a room with a double bed - mind blowing. The lactation support was woeful. They were rude and honestly no one knew how to get my son to latch after 5 days so they just gave me nipple shields. All the midwives had different opinions, ALL OF THEM. One would say one thing and the next would ask me why I was doing what I was doing, this happened for 5 days. Very confusing and it did nothing for our confidence as new parents. I was told to not be so lazy and get out of bed after my emergency c section. There were a couple of good midwives, but for the most past, they were rude, uneducated and didn’t care. One midwife said, ‘we can’t release you until your baby puts on weight’ so she gave me a bottle of formula and asked me to give it to my baby, although she knew I was breastfeeding. This was her solution, not trying to figure out why my baby wasn’t gaining or getting someone to come in.On our final day, the staff member who comes around to give you a bag of goodies was the worst person there. She was rude, condescending, spoke to us like we were stupid. It was disgraceful. The rooms were freezing, I can’t explain how cold my husband and I were. We would wake up shivering. The only redemption was that the food was good. The entire experience was a shambles and I wished I had researched better - Ob and hospital. The stories coming out of this place are awful.
