Calcifer Mine
First smelter on the Chillagoe Copper area. All that remains are tramway & building foundations and the cemetery. The Almaden - Mungana railway stopped here to pickup processed ore. Calcifer smelter was moved to Mungana. You can still see some tramway sleepers from the Boomerang & Harper mines to the smelter, as well as the railway and siding with its storage sheds. Opened between 1894 to 1913. At its height had 5 hotels, cordial factory, a two teacher school, a bank, 5 stores, butcher's shop, horse racing and cricket club
