Brisbane Valley Rail Trail
One of the best things I have ever done. I did it with my son over 4 days and 3 overnight says in various accommodation. Got the shuttle from Wulkaraka station. The complete tourist guide from Josie who was at the wheel all the way to Yarraman. We booked at the Yarraman caravan park for the night and decide to take a ride through the local forest. It was a bit hilly but beautiful to ride. Popped into the Yarraman hotel for a coupler of beers then headed back to the cabin. The cabin is also bike friendly. we headed off in the morning aiming for Toogoolawah Exchange hotel. We had planned for 76 klms but we could tell by our GPS that that number wasnt adding up. We stopped at Blackbut for a break and the Bakery let me boost my bike charge outside, in the socket on the right hand side of the bakery. I am so glad they did or I would never have made the rest of the journey.By the time we got to our destination we had nearly 83 Klms on the GPS. This is a bit worrying for people who need an ebike to get around. Charging does then become an issue. At this point there are some places who will let you have a quick boost to your battery if you are spending. That may change as ebikes become more popular with the people not able enough to ride a pushy. The next day we set off for Fernvale. We were told around 57 Klms, again when we arrived we had travelled nearly 70 Klms. Luckily on the last day we only had 22 klms to go, turned out to be 25 but hey maybe both our Garmins were playing up?Pros - Absolutely one of the most beautiful places to ride.So exciting in places. The local council or whoever is looking after the trail are doing exactly that! They are creating one of the best trails in Australia. The people you meet on the trail are lovely and all have a story to tell. The attitude towards riders is faultless from the different food, accommodation and drinking outlets along the trail.Even the swooping magpies and the odd brown snake make it more interesting.Cons - When in a time the world seems to be trying to make everything accessible to everyone. The trail is lacking in one area. E-bikes are not just for people who want an easy life. Most E-bike are ridden by people who don't have the ability to ride a normal bike any large distance due to any number of conditions, but the E-bike has brought a lot of these people out of the closet so to speak. There are a lot of lampposts along the trail powered by solar. This could bring a huge number of people to the trail who cant have access at the moment. A charging point every 20 - 25 Klms would be brilliant. More people creates more money into the area. There is a huge market out there to be captured if people like myself can do this more.I will be back, but I will be better prepared and I will cut my distances until something changed regarding charging points.on a side note, it may be a good idea for cafes or food places to advertise that they will let people charge their bikes?
