About a month ago I rushed into emergency at Northern Beaches Hospital with severe urinary retention pain. The staff admitted me straight away (thank you to the kind angel who gave me her number to go in front of her). From the moment I was there, all the doctors and nurses were just incredible. They were caring, thorough and empathetic with me having to be away from my baby for the first time. A special thank you to Dr Evie, Nurses Isaac and Alice in the short stay ward and the Obs & Gynae team who all went above and beyond. We are so lucky to have such wonderful humans caring for our community.

I got admitted on a private maternity ward but doesnt like I was treated well. I waited for 8hours in ED until I got transferred to the ward. No one even bother to offer me food in ED. I didnt had any dinner ordered on arrival to ward. The Doctor named Jessica Brown was not even emphathetic on answering my questions or explaining things to me. Just so upset.

I gave birth to my first child as a public patient at Northern Beaches Hospital a week ago, the midwives and doctors were amazing. Specifically a MASSIVE thank you from the bottom of my heart to my midwives Emma and Mathilde and to Dr Candice and Dr Ruff. Everyone was so supportive and professional and worked tirelessly towards a healthy outcome for my baby. I really did feel like I was in good hands and that gave my partner and I the peace of mind we needed on our very special day.I was lucky enough to get a private room for my two night stay which was extremely clean and comfortable. In my two night stay the midwives on shift politely and patiently helped me learn how to properly breastfeed, swaddle and bath my baby. They offered pain relief each visit and made sure myself and my partner knew where the help yourself kitchen was which had food and drinks and the freezer was always stocked with ice packs for pain relief.Once out of the hospital my at home visits from the midwives were great, I once again felt comfortable and they patiently listened to and assisted me with any concerns.I highly recommend this hospital, it has been such a positive experience!

Absolutely shockingly bad emergency system, no order whatsoever no updates no nothing, people being attended to effective immediately after being in emergency for less than 10 minutes clearly with no dire need of emergency attention where as myself , considering the state of my condition, I waited for 3 hours and no bother from anymore, duty of care was non existent. Careless, rude staff. Nurse was rude too she said there wasn’t enough seats for someone to accompany me but there were plenty of seats Don’t waste your time go elsewhere. Cafe staff are rude too. Terrible hospital, won’t come back, what a disaster. Fix your system your countless negative reviews should ring some alarm bells. Northern beaches disaster

Hi i want to share the worst experience about an emergency department!! First of fall I don’t think so they need to say this section is an Emergency Department. For my knowledge an Emergency department should be more convenient and quick then normal services!! My wife she is pregnant and not feeling well. She got some pain in her abdomen. But we been told just wait outside doctor will come and see her. But it’s already been more than 3 hour!! No one came, I can’t believe it its in Emergency department. Please if you want to make sure you have at least 7-8 hour of your time then later on what you will hear from doctor everything ok just take painkillers. I mean seriously.

I’ve had 3 experiences at the hospital and every time the staff were amazing.I sliced my finger a few years back and needed surgery, I know I would have to wait a bit in A&E as it wasn’t a priority but that’s ok. The staff were very professional and I was scheduled for surgery the following day.I gave birth in the maternity ward last year publicly and the midwives and doctors were outstanding. I always felt I was in great hands. I stayed in two nights with my little girl in shared room, it was very clean and tidy. The midwives showed me how to breastfeed properly and even had a room to teach us how to bath and swaddle our newborn.Yesterday I went to A&E with heavy bleeding from a miscarriage and all the staff were exceptional. I got seen to quickly. Yes there is a bit of waiting in the bays in A&E and noise as others said but you’re not the only one in the department, other lives are happening all around and I personally don’t mind if the nurses and doctors laugh or chat, it’s shows good moral within the team, they were still constantly professional. Some of the reviews are very harsh, I don’t think people understand how great the Australian healthcare system is compared to other countries, they should be very proud of Medicare and the systems in place.

Had a day surgery and was looked after from the moment I walked in. The facilities are new and everything is private so you have your own room prior to entering theatre which gives you space to mentally prepare for your surgery without other people around. Staff were so friendly and so accomodating, down to getting me hot blankets when I looked a little cold. When I returned from surgery I was brought a steaming hot latte which was delicious, way more than I was expecting from a coffee in hospital. My surgeons also made the experience significantly better than previous surgeries by being really friendly and thorough. Never thought I’d do a 5/5 google review after having surgery but I was very impressed.

Went here with my whole body covered in hives, extreme stomach pain, vomiting. Since I exclusively breast feed my baby I had to take her with me. Wish I had pumped but I wasn’t ready with pumped milk so had to take her too. I couldn’t keep my head up and waiting room was full of people. I was worried cuz of all the viruses and when triage took me in my husband asked are you sending us back out there? Can we please have somewhere away from these people just cuz of the baby? The nurse who was listening was so unnecessarily rude telling my hubby off passive aggressively welcome to take her home if you want. Husband said yea I would if she wasn’t breast fed. Anyway waiting more longer and finally my bloods were tested and urine. Doc(he was kind) said there is a virus but can’t tell what. No mention of the urine. Sent me home after hours of waiting for me to get more and more sick that night. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE

I was and still am traumatised by my experience at the NB Hospital emergency department. I was brought to hospital in an ambulance as I could no longer walk without severe pain. I was in the short stay for days. I was given all sorts of pain medication and was repeatedly told I was okay and would be discharged home. They continued to try to make me walk despite crying and writhing in pain. I asked over and over again to get an MRI which they refused to give me as it wasn't necessary. They sent the physio to see me who checked my feet a couple of times, spoke to the nurse and decided that I was fine to go home. By this stage I was so incapacitated I had to ask for a catheter as getting to the toilet was nearly impossible. I was put in a bed next to a woman who still upsets me to think about to this day. She was consistently bullying me through the curtain dividing us. She was mimicking the sound of me in pain, loudly talking to her partner about how many pain meds I was requesting and asked that I be moved to another part of emergency. I could hear her saying this to the nurse and when I asked the nurse what was going on she denied it. I was moved to the other end of the ward and this woman continually exited her area to stare at me from across the ward and also started to take photos of me. Eventually she was moved to another part of the hospital. I still wish I could give this woman a piece of my mind.I finally got one night nurse who decided to give me a nerve pain medication which was the most relief I'd had in days. When they came to discharge me, I said that's fine, but how do you expect me to leave the hospital or get around my house when I cannot walk? So they finally booked the MRI after multiple days where all they had provided me with was apple juice. I was made to manoeuvre myself onto the MRI bed when I was screaming in pain and when the doctor on duty and nurses reviewed my scans, they all apologised as my disc had completely ruptured and was crushing my spinal nerve completely and I would require immediate transfer for emergency surgery by the neuro team at RNSH (who were amazing FYI). To make the experience even better, when the patient transfer came to get me they refused to take me as I was over 100 kilos. What kind of emergency department outsources their patient transfers to a 3rd party who refuse to move people over 100 kilos!? Most men would weigh this much!! I had to advocate for myself through emotion and extreme pain, it had gotten to the point where I could not even move my legs in the bed, yet they wanted me to stand on the scales to check my weight. The NUM managed to book a patient transfer for me with another company that had regular sized beds and kind staff. I was in RNSH and operated on the very next day. I am still not over this experience at NB hospital and hope that anyone in a situation similar to mine, who knows something is not right, finds the voice to stand up for themselves and get the treatment they deserve.

NBH is well run, modern, clean hospital employing amazing staff!! Every single staff member that I have met - porters, cleaners, catering staff, admin staff, radiologists, physiotherapists, phlebotomists, nurses and doctors to name a few - are all dedicated and I feel have always gone above and beyond to help me on my road to recovery during several recent admissions, some for serious medical conditions, including stay in ICU and on other wards. I always feel listened to and I know that the care I get is exceptional. Compared to other health systems around the world (from my experience I’m thinking about the UKs NHS) - we are very lucky to live in a country where public and private health works seamlessly to help people from all backgrounds get the medical care they need. Lots of negative reviews are around waiting times in Emergency, however, that is because the triage team is constantly having to assess who is a priority from a medical point of view. I would personally recommend the NBH to friends and family without hesitation. Thank you to all staff that have made my experiences positive!!
