ASA Conservation Framing

I took four artworks in to be framed: two acrylics on canvasboard, a painting on paper and a lithograph. I received friendly, expert advice, with an emphasis on what I liked. The framing was the highest standard and I’m thrilled with the results.

The gates were shut & padlocked.

I was eventually referred to Jochen at ASA Framing after originally approaching a number of framing companies in Sydney, where I was disappointed to find a lack knowledge and understanding of what they were doing. All I did was research the topic a bit on Google and after asking a few basic questions and it was apparent that the majority are just offering frame style options and know little in the way of proper mounting techniques and preserving art work.A couple of galleries suggested I contact professional conservation framers who do work for museums and galleries, but warned me there are less than a handful of these in Sydney. I thought it wouldn't hurt to get prices and was pleasantly surprised to find that ASA Framing was more than competitive and in some cases cheaper.From Jochen's first email it was apparent how superior his understanding and ability to care for my art work. He went into great detail and comprehensively explained the options available such as mounting techniques, framing options and why, choice of museum acrylic or glass, pro's and cons of reflectivity vs. condensations issues, costs and time frames etc.Jochen talked me through all the framing options, after looking at the pieces, showed me through some recently framed work for privates and galleries so I could get a feel for the final look and then made his suggestions. As with most good artwork, the frame should not detract from the actual piece and I agreed with his suggestions of mainly white and some natural oak box frames. Having hung the pieces in my house I am more than happy he helped me make those choices as they look fantastic.I ended up framing 6 large and 3 small pieces with Jochen, all various sizes ranging up to 1m x 1m down to A4 size, with a mix of prints with deckled and normal edges and originals on hand made paper, which ended up with a mix of float and traditional mounts. Jochen even did one frame for free given the quantity of pieces being framed, that was a really nice gesture.I wanted to write this review to say how pleased I was with the work Jochen (ASA Framing) did on my collection and how easy he was to deal with. He obviously knows a lot about framing, he is even an artist in his own right so has a passion for what he does. I have had some framing done in the past, but the quality and finish of Jochen's work is outstanding from the mounting, to the frame, through to the sealed back and little fabric bumpers he adds to protect the base of the frame when hung. Like a tailored shirt compared to one off the rack, you really can see the professional finish. I look forward to enjoying my art for many years to come.I can highly recommend Jochen and ASA Framing.
