We took a leap of faith and bought a block of land in the Hills District with a flamezone rating. Knowing we were against the odds of building the house we wanted and it wasnt going to cost us an arm and a leg we hoped we could find a bushfire consultant that might be able to assist us achieve this. I researched bushfire consultants and found an article that Duncan had commented on, found his details, sent off an email enquiry and no sooner Duncan had contacted me on a Saturday! I was extremely uneducated about BAL ratings. After a phone call I felt super confident in Duncan's expertise. Duncan was extremely approachable, explained everything so we could understand and with his detailed and thorough bushfire report helped us achieve the house we wanted with a lower BAL rating and a successful Council approval first go, saving us tens of thousands in architect fees and building costs. Duncan made it feel easy even though we knew it wasnt. His service was exceptional and we believe it was the best money we have spent. We would recommend Duncan in a heartbeat.

Duncan at BEMC provides a great service for us. We use BEMC for all our bushfire prone mapped development sites and highly recommend using their services.

I couldn't recommended using BEMC less - if I could give zero stars, I would.We had a very specific but fairly straightforward issue requiring the assistance of a bushfire consultant, concerning the construction of a deck in a bushfire prone area. We required assistance to confirm construction requirements to meet the BAL rating for the area.I explained the issue to Duncan over the phone, who said he could help. Once I received his report ($700) I consulted Council, and then the construction landscaper for the deck, with a view to making the necessary changes to meet compliance.Every time I went back to Duncan to confirm the changes required to meet the requirements, the answer changed, but was always vague and ambiguous. He then couldn't even remember what construction materials were used, despite the site visit and having been provided with all construction plans and Council documentation concerning the Building Information Certificate.He then wanted another $800 to come back out to the property to re-inspect - milking further fees for no outcome. BEMC have cost us significant money and wasted almost 5 months in obtaining the approvals we sought - and we're still no closer.I would recommend going elsewhere for your bushfire consultant requirements.
