Craig Cook's Prime Quality Meats

On two separate occasions I asked at the Northbridge shop if they had free-range pork and was assured all their pork was free range.After a little investigation I found out that this is not really true. Their pork is sourced from Byron Bay Pork who use 'Eco pens', basically a greenwashing term that means piglets are born outdoors, but after weening (4-6 weeks old) are moved indoors for the rest of their lives.This sort of pseudo free-range farming is much better than the cruel factory/concrete pen method, but is definitely not the same as free-range. It's poor form/misleading/dishonest to sell it as such, makes it harder for the true free-range producers to compete, and turns the consumer into an unwitting supporter of farming methods they are actively spending extra money to avoid!

The customer service here is bad. What’s worse is the stuff they throw in a bag and charge money for. I wanted them to cut up some beef chuck into small pieces and remove gristle/excess fat. They took the whole roast, cut it in exactly the same size pieces as their regular stew beef, only this had even more fat and gristle left on it than the already prepared stuff they had in the window. They didnt ask if it was acceptable, nor did they show it to me after cutting. They just threw it in a plastic then paper bag and took my money and sent me on my way. I had bought other things that were subpar, but this time I want to warn others. If I want average meat from now on and I’m shopping in Northbridge Plaza, I’ll just go to Woolies;)

Good quality selection. Generally always have a good weekly special. Nice range of snags. On the pricey side for your prime cuts of beef and lamb though.

I have the pleasure of visiting these guys once a week to pick up grass fed/ finished steaks. They have the BEST quality cuts.. I’ve searched everywhere in Sydney and no one comes close. I live an hour away and drive in because they have 3 hat restaurant level cuts and awesome truffle/wagyu pieces too.. at very reasonable prices. They threw in a carton of eggs and bag as a thank you today. F*^%% legends…

Rude staff, poor service and ultimately overpriced low quality products. Owner openly pushes you to buy the more expensive cuts. Never again.

Blunt, rude and belligerent staff. You’d think given the supercharged prices being charged it would be the opposite. Just abominable service.

Schnitzel was delicious. Young man who served me made a great recommendation and was very helpful.

Unreliable. Over the phone I made a special order for an unusual cut of meet, to be picked up on a particular day. On the day I was to pick up the order I called to ask for it to be cut in a certain way, only to be told they had actually not ordered it at all because the cut was expensive. The owner said he was going to call me to let me know or ask me if I still wanted it - but obviously hadn't. Would have been nice to be told, I certainly wouldn't be ordering anything from them again.

Worst steak ever. They revived the ancient art of showing the best stuff in the display and bagging and charging whatever they grabbed from under the counter in the blink of an eye. I paid $34+ for blade steak if I was lucky yesterday. Fair Trade Assoc next then back to Coles for me.

Have been buying from these butchers for two years now through a variety of outlets, through David Jones, Northbridge and online. After a few purchases of spoiling meat (which we put down to bad luck) we have finally ceased buying from this provider. Every recent purchase has had issues with freshness and quality. With our last purchase of over $200 just about everything was spoilt or very close to spoiling. There is nothing worse than the rancid smell of meat that is about to spoil. Clearly, this provider has an issue with stock rotation. Given the top prices these guys charge this is most disappointing. We will be taking our business elsewhere and leaving the over-priced rotting meat to these guys to ponder.
