Ok, so first off, service wonderful and faultless. Pleasant upstairs dining room too, unfortunately my table was opp the one external door which as expected in an old building had the coldest of drafts blowing into my legs, meaning I was uncomfortably cold. Ordered their Sunday roast. Very disappointed. The gravy was so full of mustard seeds it was all I could taste and it was like a swimming pool on my plate. Yorkshires were burnt (cleverly on the underside) so were very dry with a bitter after taste. The only vegetables on my plate were onions and beetroot, also swimming in the gravy. A very brown plate. No fresh green vegetables or cauliflower cheese or bright orange carrots as one would expect with a roast that said roasted vegetables. I love roasted beetroot but it can’t be the only vegetable on the plate surely?! Roast potatoes were lovely but as they were sitting in a huge puddle of gravy meant they had no crunch. It would have been better to serve with minimal gravy-if at all and brought the gravy out in a gravy boat thus allowing the diner to decide how much to put on one’s plate. The meat was tender and cooked nicely but over shadowed by the rest of the underwhelming plate of food and covered in so much gravy, yet again mustard seeds was all I could taste. The Brussels had some recognisable flavour but again were over cooked and had more of a burnt flavour than a crunchy crisp flavour which I believe was the idea.Maybe I went in with too high expectations, maybe the chef had a bad day, but this was pretty underwhelming on the verge of unpleasant meal and I’m still picking mustard seats out of my teeth! Such a shame, had high hopes. 5 stars for service but I am afraid it was quickly overshadowed by the awful plate of food served in a swimming pool of gravy.

We were looking for a late lunch with nice sunny spot and we found this place which is very good. Old historical building, very tasty pizza 2 for 1 Tuesday, friendly staff, good beer

Having been away for a while met some old friends here for a Sunday lunch catch up. The Riverview did not let us down for great quality food and atmosphere. The fish of the day was cooked to perfection with a very nice side salad. But the stand out was the Sunday roast with yorkshire pud, absolutely perfect on a wintery day in Sydney. It beats The London hotel for atmosphere and quality of food.We recommend you book your table as there was a steady stream of people also enjoying the Pub.

Interesting place, very Balmain. Dogs welcome and some running off leash, has food, a fireplace. Very cosy.

Nothing says Sunday like a good old fashioned Sunday roast. Serving up a traditional roast of the day every Sunday. I had the beef brisket roast served with all the trimmings including roast potatoes, cabbage, roast beetroot and a traditional crispy Yorkshire pudding accompanied with a mustard gravy and horseradish cream. My only additional request is that there is more gravy! My plate in particular didn’t have a lot of gravy but one of the other guests on my table had slightly more than me. Needed some additional gravy particularly to eat the crispy Yorkshire pudding.A filling and satisfying Sunday roast lunch, I am keen to come back again.

Absolutely love this pub. We've been here quite a few times. This time we were here on a big table for a friend's birthday. All the food arrived in a timely fashion. I must say for a pub, they have a great selection of wines. Unfortunately the schnitzel was a little overcooked but the chips were delicious.

I frequent this place quite often and to be honest I always enjoy the ambience of the venue (great clientele and Saturday nights with Sam on vocals … Sunday roasts are amazing and you can’t go wrong with the nightly specials during the week). But … something has been playing on my mind (simmering) for some time. The Manager/owner has the most appalling attitude when it comes to her approach to hospitality. This evening I was stood at the bar when a very elegant lady approached the bar and ordered a specific bottle of wine. The wrong wine was provided and the patron pointed it out. She pointed to the wine she requested on the wine list. The wine list was practically thrown back at the lady ordering and the ‘correct’ wine was fetched. Much to the dismay of the lady ordering this wine was also incorrect. The lady had given up at this point and was probably too afraid to highlight the error again. She end up paying $20 more than she had intended to … what a shame!

Beautiful restaurant, looks newly decorated.Staff were lovely and polite. It was quite empty upstairs -3 tables only for a Saturday night which is a shame as it's a lovely spot but it was great for an intimate dinnerFood tastes great, but it was over priced for tiny portions.$65 for the seafood platter for 2 -which was 4 small mussels, 4 prawns and 4 tiny scallops --> luckily we also ordered chats potatoes and green salad sides ($12 each) but were still super hungry afterwards. The platter would be better suited to one -and you'll still need some decent sides! Both us and the other table did raise with staff that the portions were small and that we were hungry. The staff agreed that portions are small there and just advised to have the $18 crumble for dessert as it's the biggest dessert and will fill us up" (we shared it due to cost so came home and had some toast ! )Lovely venue but we probably won't be back as spent $142 (included water
