Meatsmith - Specialty Butcher & Wine Merchant

As a vegetarian, this is by far my favourite butcher to support when buying meat for my omnivorous partner! You know as soon as you walk in it won’t be cheap - the space is beautifully curated and there are loads of specialty deli items on offer in addition to meat goods - but they do deliver a quality of the meat that (according to my partner) remains consistently superior, and I like that they buy from local farms too. If you’re going to eat meat, eat less of it and buy the best, most local and cruelty free that you possibly can. The service here is always excellent, and even though the deli goods are highly priced, I often indulge as to find them for less elsewhere would cost me far more in time, and I like the effort they have gone to in selecting a premium offering here. The wines and specialty drinks available are also always crafty and interesting and I have discovered lots of lovely new brands and flavors from my visits here. Highly recommend for premium cuts and on site prepared specialties.

Bought a 1.6kg rack of short ribs to smoke for $80. Bit spenno but when I eat flesh I want it to be good. 11hrs on the Weber and the results speak for themselves.

I’ve come to meatsmith almost every Friday for probably a year now, and they always, always make the most incredible sandwich for the lunch special (sometimes you get a free beer!) It’s never the same thing, and it’s always delicious. Their service is incredible, and that’s not even talking about the meat they sell, which is amazing. They have so much stuff you could want, and such high quality, locally sourced. Love meat smith.

Meat Smith is not your average butcher - more an experience than a simple meat purchase. You'll find exceptional quality meats and highly trained staff who can recommend the type of meat and cut for just about any dish you're preparing. These guys supply some of Melbourne's top restaurants so you if you want some of the best cuts, you've come to the right place. They also have a decent selection of marinaded meats, fine foods (sauces, rubs, seasoning etc.) and wines! I usually make the trip here only for special occasions but still find the prices reasonable.

Go for the beef spare ribs every second week. Bet it’s the best quality in Melbourne. Fine dining environment decor.

Great variety of meats. The sausages were the most flavourful sausages I’ve had, definitely a must try. The Chicken leek pie was also very tasty.

I am a carnivore (but used to be a vegetarian). These days I seek out a variety of food and came to this with a friend. Feels like a funked up butcher shop with the bonus of having lovely cured meats and cold cuts.Tried the prosciutto which was superb so we went back for some more tastes. As we were going straight home, we knew we'd be ordering quite a bit of fine food today.Loaded up with food, we headed home to cook up our delights.Staff were very friendly. Gave me some tips on how to prepare one of the cuts of meat.Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking - well considering where it is, it's not bad.

Bought a large rib eye on the bone, cooked on a hibachi medium rare and rested. A Lot of gristle in the meat, quite tough and not very flavoursome. Certainly not the premium brand Meatsmith markets itself as.

Very good service today and selection bit on pricey side but good for one stops for quick special dinners, given deli needs options for larger bacon portions
