GoodRunnings was the organisation that helped me get past the 5K parkrun wall and into longer distances. The events provide a very welcoming atmosphere and the organiser embraces and caters for people of all abilities and paces.The organisation offers events in so many places, there's always something for everyone on offer.Volunteering with the organisation has also helped me provide others with that same welcoming feeling I got when I did my first event, the annual 'Geek Run' held on May 4th.This event was of particular interest due to the catchy name and me, being nerdy by nature, had to check it out. The location was the gorgeous Laratinga wetlands in Mount Barker, and people were encouraged to dress up if they wanted to (best dressed prize was on offer). The course was well marked as we wove our way around the lakes and onto the main pathway that is part of the Mount Barker parkrun course.Refreshments and snacks were provided at both the main aid station/start point, and the turnaround location to keep us fuelled for the km of our chosen distance.At the end, podium places were awarded, and medals and certificates handed out to the celebration of the other competitors.This provided such an atmosphere that I wanted more of.
