Monkey Nut Café - Barossa Valley
Such a lovely ambience, great service, delicious food and fantastic coffee. Serving sizes are extremely generous, and the prices are more than reasonable.Truly a hidden gem in the Barossa.

We prebooked a table at the Monkey Nut Cafe, for a rare outing to the barossa to spoil ourselves. No table was set up when we arrived. They hurriedly carried a table out there for us,then without offering a menu or drink shut the door on us. Noting how busy it was inside (and understaffed)and after our initial treatment we left feeling very disappointed. Luckily we were able to get into a hotel nearby at the last minute where we were treated cordially and had a delicious meal.We will be returning to the hotel again but not the Monkey Nut Cafe.

March 2023 visitVery unpleasant experience unfortunately..This was a last minute change to a wine tour itinerary for lunch and tasting, and was honestly pretty bad.Firstly, there was a seat missing from our group tables (which weren’t really next to each other), and it seemed like an inconvenience for this to be rectified. At first, the lady was just going to put a chair at the end (which would have been uncomfortable and squashed). I suggested an extra table at the end, to which she obliged but seemed a bit annoyed at.Secondly, we asked if the chicken in one of the dishes was breast and was advised it was. With limited options, a lot of us opted for this. The chicken was not only clearly thigh (brown/pink meat), but also tough, fatty/grisly and basically inedible. Most of us left our meals hardly touched. When we told and showed the waitress, she advised the chef, who still insisted it was breast chicken…that was definitely concerning that they could still claim that when it clearly wasn’t true. The waitress did offer those who spoke up replacements, which only one person accepted though, due to the most being put off. A couple of others opted for a dessert instead, while the rest just went outside for the remainder of our time there. The fish and chips was described as ‘basically two fish fingers’ and looked & tasted like the packet ones from the supermarket - not nice at all for such a simple dish. Chips were mostly overcooked and also not nice. Again, another unpleasant meal which the other half of the group unfortunately opted for.Lastly, the tasting wasn’t actually a tasting but a bottle of wine on each table (not what we were expecting). This place really needs to lift its game, as the food is quite terrible. Hopefully they take in this critical yet honest feedback and improve.

Lovely venueWe did a little wine tasting first and the staff was friendly and informative and the wines to try were a large varied choice. Gift shop. Outside pergola eating area as well as indoors. Very child friendly.Meal was delicious and again staff were professional and attentive. Well worth a visit and ask why its called Monkey Nut while you are there!

The service was excellent. The food was yummy. The wine was so good that I bought a bottle to take home with me. They had a cute gift shop where my husband bought gourmet cookies to take home with us. We hadn’t made a booking and they still found a table for us and because there was a bit of a wait for our food they gave us a complimentary small cheese platter which was exquisite! I would definitely come back. I love this place. It’s a great place for a lunch, brunch or a wine and cheese platter. I highly recommend this place.

Tucked in out of the way-ish winery and cafe/restaurant with a small menu of tasty culinary delights, superb wine couplings add to the ambience.

3.5 stars. Attached to the Kies cellar door. It was good to have a full cafe menu after a few diff tasting. Food was just alright and took a long long time to come. Service was fine.
