About the Business

inHerit - State Heritage Office | Heritage Council Places Database Old Onslow Townsite The most prominent ruins in the old Onslow town site are the stone remains of the gaol, the courthouse, the police station and police quarters. A concrete roof that appears to be set into the ground is the roof of an underground water tank once used by the police. None of the buildings remain intact and have suffered badly from vandalism and exposure to harsh climatic conditions. The stone walls were constructed from local stone blocks with concrete quoins and tuck-pointing. None of the large doors or substantial windows remains. Few trees have survived in the vicinity of the ruins, which are surrounded by scrub.

There's not much left of what was once a thriving town unfortunately but still worth a look.

The dirt road out to the town was in good condition. The ruins were interesting. Information Sign posts indicated where buildings had been but there were no remains.

Fascinating to drink in a touch of the pioneers who made Western Australia what it is. Looking at the hostile environment of this region, one can only admire the strength of spirit required to see opportunity within the challenge of the environment.

Breathtakingly beautiful the left over building from pioneer history, very daunting to see the chains still there and what these walls have seen, interesting history and definitely worth a stop and visit we drove in with a camper trailer so nice and easy! The prison itself looks like something out of a horror movie.

Worth a visit to see the origin town site built in 1883. Due to silting of the river the town was moved in 1925 where Onslow is now. A couple of the original building still remain.

Who would imagine a whole town moving! Well Old Onslow become Onslow about 10km away, with some of the buildings being pulled down and rebuilt at the new site. The jail and police station are the main structures left, suppose they had to be built sturdy. The road was corrugated when we visited but there was a clean drop loo and a picnic table undercover which made up for the bumpy drive. We couldn't find the cemetery which was signposted but seem to lead nowhere. The amount of old broken bottles was astounding! Worth a look if you have the time.

Intriguing old historical buildings of a town that moved because of the cyclone. There’s not much left to see apart from the pictures you could see on the description but worth stopping to have a quick look.
