Calais Estate Winery

Booked an intimate romantic grazing picnic at Calais, and boy were we surprised! Calais had exceeded our expectations from the sheer size of the grazing platter and variety of food options, to the wine, to the beautiful and romantic picnic setup. They made our day feel so special and magical. The estate itself is so charming and felt so authentic and unique from the other more commercialised wineries in the valley. The picturesque landscape was a welcome sight after our picnic as we went for a little stroll to enjoy the romantic ambience they had on offer.

Don’t bother booking, just turn up. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth when they say they will waive the tasting fee cos you are buying, but oh no we paid beforehand so sucked in?To clarify we weren’t expecting the tasting fee to be refunded however when we were paying the man said they would waive the tasting fee, however seen it was already paid for so nothing else offered. You were busy however just two groups. Will try somewhere that can handle more than that next time.

First spot as we entered Hunter Valley. We went with the wine and cheese tasting, our host Lana was exceptional. Her knowledge about wines and grapes is truly commendable. The restaurant upstairs too has a variety of options to choose from. A must visit place when in Hunter Valley.

Today we had organised a grazing picnic and tasting at Calais Estate winery. There are truely not enough adjectives to describe how amazing this experience was. Started with a wonderful tasting with John who was very knowledgeable and accommodating of our questions. The gift shop was well worth a visit and then we were taken to a beautiful table and chairs picnic setting under a tree where the most amazing platters were waiting for us. The variety and quantity of food was spectacular and the ladies who looked after us and the gentlemen who prepared the stunning food were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Cannot recommend this experience more enthusiastically. Thank you.

This is a little gem of a winery. Lana our host was amazing. She has extensive knowledge of grapes and the entire process of wine making. Additionally she was kind enough to take us for a tour of their champagne making process. It was fantastic. Highly recommend for everyone in the hunter to visit this winery.

Five stars all the way! We ordered lunch platters for 4 and it could have fed 8. The assortment of meats, cheeses, crackers, fruit and sweet treats was amazing. Lana was being the tasting bar and couldn’t have been better. She gauged our level of interest and knowledge of wine and catered for us perfectly.Do yourself a favour and visit this winery, sit beside the vines and treat yourself.

We used to visit this place just for their amazing burgers. They used to have this amazing mushroom patty burger which is not available any more unfortunately. However this place great and would be a nice place for a afternoon lunch on a sunny day. Reservations required.

We had an amazing time with Emily! She was so lovely and managed to fit us in last minute for a tasting. Super knowledgable about the wines and great to chat to!Would thoroughly recommend for a relaxed enjoyable tasting experience’!

My husband and I visited with our daughter this morning for breakfast. We sat upstairs on their gorgeous balcony overlooking the beautiful grounds. Coffee and breakfast was delicious. Service was warm and friendly.As we came back down stairs, we met some friendly geese which wandered up from the pond. It was the highlight of our daughter's day! We will definitely be back!
