Genesis Health and Fitness Southbank

Terrible customer service. Before COVID they had told me I wasn't allowed to use the scale to weigh myself because it was in the staff room and if they had left it out it would get stolen. They used to always leave it out. Now after COVID they have reduced their hours and I couldn't make it into the gym after work (I had tried going on my day off and while they said they close at 7, the sliding glass door on ground level was locked at 6:30!) so I had requested a 60 day account suspension while I tried other gyms (which they happily agreed to), I had found a much better gym (Dohertys in Banana Alley Vaults) and then requested they cancel my membership, they said okay and will begin the 30 day notice period. They ended my suspension with 30 days left and began charging me again when I couldn't even use the gym! Thankfully my bank refunded the transactions after I disputed them. Dohertys is 500 metres away, 24/7 and way cheaper, there's no need to even consider this joke of a gym.

A basic gym...Would love for some new equipment! Only two staff members are welcoming... all in all it gets the job done.

Massive shoutout to Shawn for looking after me and getting me signed up to a flexible option that really suited me to help shed the lockdown weight! Also really appreciated the run through he gave me of the COVID precautions the gym is taking. Both days since opening I've noticed the constant cleaning, it's great.

Great gym with great facilities. Staff can be a tad friendlier though!

The Gym is okay .. nice staff but be careful about the payments .. read the contract carefully. At first I was misled to a free month membership, then they told me you need to register for one month at least so that you can get your free month. I made a mistake and registered with them. But after my membership ended they still deducting money, then I called them and they said your membership is 2 months + 1 month free. While the gym staff told me at the registration ( you need only to pay 1 month).What I’m trying to say is: Just be extra careful when it comes to money. Unfortunately I had overpaid and they admit that and said “we will offer you a free month but sorry we can’t refund the money.”

Great. Nice people, great instructors. Treadmills get a real workout and have built in TV tuners. Occasionally its hit and miss if the TV's work. Fitness classes are good and Kate is a great inspiration and look forward to attending her classes and can recommend her body pump class. Change rooms are new and generally neat and tidy. The virtual classroom is probably a waste and that space is probably better used for something else.

The staff are very helpful, the equipment is ok, but I think they could be better since this gym is in the heart of Southbank. One thing that really should be better is the organization of weights. Some people and even personal trainers do not disassemble the weights after use (I think that especially personal trainers should set an example for others)This is disrespectful to other people who come in to train.

The city is in lockdown and Gyms have been closed yet they are charging me! They don't respond to phone or emails and if you don't pay they send the debt collector! AVOID at all costs!!

Extremely loud, annoying music. Lack basic pieces of equipment (like for abs and lower back) and weights are left all over the place.

Convenient location. Staff are friendly, not super busy. But some equipment is looking a bit tired and there are not a huge range of classes on. Gym is going to be renovated so will be interesting to see how facilities are afterwards. Also, it doesn't seem equipment gets wiped down after each use by users.
