Enormous drops in quality , please review your old days recipe and bring it back, sorry to say that , but we won't coming back again , calamari, and prawns and fish must taste fresh , not the way you are selling. Very disappointing.

Fish and chips very oily. Ordered five fish and chips, which were all throw together in two thin layers of paper, crushing and mashing the food together. It was incredibly unappealing looking with bright yellow chips and definitely not worth $50.

Location is good. Can’t say it’s cheap because all compared to a sit down restaurants the price is close to same. Very oily. The slushie was too watery. It’s ok for a quick snack. Should have tried the grilled ..

Food was eaten outside of shop, got a seafood basket. Chips could have been cooked a few minutes longer, fish batter on one of the two pieces was like soggy wet bread on the inside, calamari was like jerky, other pieces I didn’t personally try. Just a bit mid overall, eatable but not really worth the $34

Came to nelson bay for a holiday. Bought the Grilled barramundi and the 8 squid pack, food was decent, only downside was the portion size was huge. We ended up throwing away half our chips because we could not finish it.

I was happy with the food. The cocktail fish are very tasty, but on the smaller side compared with other shops. The calamari was also tasty (not rings, but pieces of battered squid (like salt &pepper squid), just FYI). The potato scallops are much smaller than traditional takeaway size, which was a bit disappointing. We got the Mermaid Basket and a few extra calamari and potato scallops, and it fed 3 adults + 3 little kids (<9yrs old) pretty comfortably.Prices have increased a fair bit since some of the older menu photos on Google (I've posted newer prices in attached photos). It's not cheap, but the quality made up for it. Probably our favourite in the Nelson Bay area at the moment.

I haven't had a good traditional feed of fish and chips like that in years. Fresh with real batter and the chips(you get an option of either thick or thin) cooked just right. Excellent.

We came out here for a nice drive away from home and to get what we hoped would be an enjoyable lunch. Instead what we received from John Dory’s fish and chips shop was average and subpar food. We had ordered the family pack which included 4 pieces of fish and 4 serves of chips, 3 crumbed and 1 battered, and an extra piece of battered fish on the side. The girl behind the counter was evidently confused as to what we were trying to order so instead of asking to repeat what we said, she looked at us as if we had just ordered in a foreign language. Upon receiving our food we found a decent BBQ area not far away from the restaurant which was the only enjoyable part of this take-away experience. The fish that we consumed was quite clearly frozen then reheated upon serving. I’m fairly certain packing peanuts would have contained more flavour than the salt-less chips we were given. The dead fish just outside the restaurant would have held more flavour than the meal we received.

Excellent seafood basket Friday evening, served quickly by a very friendly crew. The battered fish was nice and crispy as were the chips and the calamari were delicious. For me it beat the local shop that is doing famous fish&chips" any time. Very good value for money too."
