Hire A Hubby Crows Nest
Our family engaged Calvin from Hire a Hubby Crows Nest for several small jobs around our house. We thought that we could trust him as his workmanship and communication had been good. However, we recently encountered a serious issue involving misleading behaviour and feel compelled to disclose this to other potential customers.We engaged Calvin to supply and install a driveway gate for us. It involved ordering these goods from a third party. He quoted for the job and requested a large deposit (>$6000) for this order, which we duly paid.The job was quoted to be completed within 6 weeks, but was repeatedly delayed. Calvin gave us multiple reasons for these delays, including blaming the third party manufacturer, third party delivery issues, personal issues etc. Despite multiple requests, Calvin did not provide written confirmation of the order with the third party manufacturer. We also had two prolonged periods where Calvin would not respond to emails, SMS or calls when we were following up the status of our order. After 6 months of delay, we finally escalated the issue with Hire A Hubby Head Office to get Calvin to resume communication.After also escalating the situation directly with the third party, they advised us that Calvin received a quote for the goods but that no order had ever been placed, nor any deposit paid. So we had been waiting for seven months for goods that were never coming. Only after engaging legal advice and writing to Hire A Hubby head office, did we receive a refund for our deposit and a written apology. Hire A Hubby head office has been supportive and helpful through the process of getting back in contact with Calvin and securing a refund for our initial deposit, and we have appreciated their help.I never received an explanation for the events that occurred and have not been given reassurance that measures will be taken to prevent such behaviour from occurring again. I have been in contact with the relevant government department to express my serious concerns regarding this job. I do not write this review for malicious reasons, but I don't want other members of the community to go through events like this.
