It's a must do visit but in all honesty I expected much better. It's quite old and could do with some maintenance/landscaping considering it's one of the nation's most iconic locations. The road into the place was under repairs and a huge queue of Tesla's were waiting to charge their batteries next to the site. At the time we arrived the Exit from the Hume to the monument and entry to the Hume Highway was not all that safe, with roadworks so be careful. Weird town planning as there were so many tourists it could be much better.

The iconic Dog on the Tucker Box. My second visit, the first being 25 years ago. It's still the same. I love the merry history surrounding it and the numerous poems and songs it is included in. It sits at Five Mile Creek, 5 miles (north) from Gundagai. There is a mock tuckerbox you can sit your dog on to take a photo.Lots of parking and easy pull out back onto the highway. There is a turn zone in the middle of the highway, so pull in and out possible in either direction (we had caravan in tow :-)

Great quick stop over where you can buy jams, sweets and also a bit of nibbles. The farm looks lovely at the back. Our dog did love the small walks we did befire heading back on the road.

Make sure to go visit the Cafe near the Dog statue. They are so friendly. Make great coffee.. and the home made cakes and sandwiches are amazing. A fabulous collection of decor gifts and other art to buy as well. These people really deserve our business in preference to the other big franchises nearby one of which has gone badly downhill in service and hygiene habits.

Such an iconic monument, honouring folklore and the pioneering men and women that lived and worked in remote regions outside of our cities. On site are the structural remnants of an old Inn serving travellers between Melbourne and Sydney and a Bullock dray. The Bullockies" are the forebears of the modern truckie."

Such a lovely historical spot to visit. I noticed the old statue to the side, and the new monument has a water fountain around it. Wanted to recreate a photo I took there of a child but couldn't as the old monument no longer has the dog on it and it's been moved onto a larger monument and is surrounded by water.Beautiful backdrop and location.Images intellectual property of Musgrave Media

Great working museum. The original mail carriage is fascinating. Great examples of diesel locomotives and passenger carriages. $10 entry per person.

Nice location, plenty of parking for cars and caravans. Nice grass area with tables and chairs for eating at. There is a little shop that sells local food and art, they also sell coffee, drinks, snacks and lunch.
