I called to enquire about colouring my hair. They advised for me to come in for a test strand. I went in , I was nice and trusted them thinking they were a professional practice, given the reviews. They then looked at two options of looks I provided , of which I was advised one would take a lot of work to produce but no guidance or commentary on the easier option ( more common) I provided.She then proceeded to cut a piece of hair at the back of my head, a good 6 cm wide, from the scalp!As I have very fine and little hair, of course I was taken aback that a ‘professional’ hairdresser would do this without seeking consent first. Common practice in test strands by professional hairdressers are always conducted with hair still attached to the clients scalp, this methodology is not ‘common practice’ . Also, the text message I received advised me that my hair did not take because they use plant based product , which I would understand a professional hairdresser would take into consideration in assessing the clients hair before they take the liberty of chopping your hair off at the scalp!I’m so upset with this whole process, I have spent so much money on scalp treatments, vitamins and hair treatments to gain hair growth and some volume, it’s not acceptable that consent wasn’t requested and guidance or advice was provided !To top it off, I called the owner , who proceeded to tell me it was the finest amount of hair, whilst she wasn’t there when it was cut, amazed me that she could make that judgement comparative to what hair I have .I found the whole experience one of nothing short of unprofessional practice by common standards in hairdressing, even the phone call from the owner was nothing short of condescending and provided me with no option to any other solution.

I never liked going to the hairdressers until I found Leah at Mer-a-ki.She knows exactly how to cut my hair and fringe and I always leave happy!
