Beautifully kept historic site. Such a lovely visit seeing how well this property has been preserved.Mostly accessible by stroller, (except for upstairs main house area) you need larger wheels to get around on the gravel pathways outside. There are toilets on site, by the car park which are spotless. One of the (stable?) buildings is fitted out to hold events.

Well preserved and presented historic house. Good presentation of history of the building and the company. Knowledgeable staff can explain what happened here.

Recommended.Good restoration of a historic house. Interesting information about the house, people and the times. There was emphasis on the hardness for Europeans of trying to tame a foreign land.At the same time the Aborigines had been living there for thousands of years. Interactions between the Van Dieman's Land people and the Aborigines were fraught with the Aborigines coming of second best. Also interesting to see that VDL put out a bounty on Thylacines (Tasmanian Tigers). There were also tragedies for the settlers. The death of a two year old girl and the suicide of a sensitive young man.

Always been a gorgeous place to visit. Great views of Stanely from the green hills. Interesting history. They no longer do the ghost tours but well worth the visit.

Even a wild windy, wet day in Stanley seemed to only add to the nostalgia of Highfield House. Wonderful snapshot of Tasmanian history. Gorgeous grounds and beautiful historic house. Worth a visit.

Love this site. So amazingly restored. Difficult history, but nonetheless historically significant. The ruthlessness of the settlers apparently unparalleled. I am grateful for the opportunity to feel the indigenous pain. And for the saving of such a significant site. Plus I love the architecture

While this isn’t a hike, it’s well worth a visit while in and around Stanley. Fantastic part of our history that has been lovingly restored. So many amazing outbuildings to see.
