The statues, made from farming scrap metal, were built as a very public protest to the South Australian government's plans. First built was the Tin Man, then the Environmental Observer and then came the Cockroach. Over time, a whole series of interesting and quirky sculptures appeared, including a rat, a toilet and a spaceship. The rat and cockroach represent the politicians of the time, the toilet as to the future cleanliness of the coastal waters and past Premier John Olsen was represented as Ned Kelly.

Wake up sleepy passengers with- Did you see the size of that cockroach? Crazy sculptures that you can see as you drive by on Port Wakefield Highway.

These sculptures were built in the 1990's by a local farmer, Stephen Jones, as a unsuccessful protest against the proposed waste dump near the township of Dublin. The sculptures also included a toilet which unfortunately hasn't survived the test of time. These were nominated for heritage status in 2009.It's great to see these sculptures being preserved by the current land owners.

Easy to park by the roadside and see all 5 sculptures next to each other. Easy to take pictures although they're all behind barbed wire so not possible to get up too close. Probably good as the rusty metal would likely cause injury.Didn't enjoy the rotting rubbish smell...stop littering, guys!
