Shanghai Red 上海滩
Whether dining in or ordering via uber eats, Shanghai Red doesn't disappoint. The staff is kind, accomodating and professional even though they were very busy, and most importantly, the dishes' taste and quality live up to the high ratings. I will be back for the drunken chicken and black fungus for sure. Check it out yourself and you be the judge.

Osmanthus lotus root is not recommended, and the taste of lotus root is not good. I recommend shredded eel. It's delicious. It is worth mentioning that even at lunch time, there is no need to wait too long.

Shangai Red is an experience and a half. Everything on the menu was mouth watering, full of flavour and freshly cooked. All dishes were served hot and fairly quickly. A bit on the expensive side however it was definitely worth it. Dumplings were pure addiction and the chilli oil they provide was on point. The Shanghai fried noodles were nice however we have had better, and the Szechuan crispy chicken was quite underwhelming as it was very bland which was disappointing. Besides that, the dumplings were definitely the highlight and that would draw you back for multiple visits!

XO prawn fried rice - AMAZING! All three of us were nodding heads of approval throughout the meal.. and we would love to come back only for this dish.The rest of them - XLB were great with strong taste of chinese wine. Sichuan chicken and dumplings were also good.

Solid Shanghainese restaurant in the fashion capital!Shanghai Red has some of the best dumplings and baos that you can find in Melbourne! Their Xiaolongbao's aren't my favourite in all of Melbourne but they are certainly up there. Their pan fried pork buns are also amongst the best I've had in this city. Finally, their other main dishes are also extremely solid, so don't miss out on those. My favourite is definitely the slow cooked braised pork belly - it's absolutely delicious.The only area of improvement is definitely the service, I found that the the staff members are extremely impatient. However, this might not matter to you.

Shanghai Red is one of the places that balances the authentic shanghainese taste and localized taste well. The mix type of customers that you can see in their restaurant and the fact that it’s hard to get a table during meal time is a sound proof that people love this place. Xiao long bao is a must have. I feel the recipe they use to make the xiao long bao is not 100% traditional. Maybe it’s due to different ingredients they use from what is used in shanghai, but the taste is still very close to the ones in Shanghai. Loved it!

The Shanghai noodles are really saucy and a bit on the sweeter side which I was not fond of. Still good but had better. The chicken wonton in chilli oil were good the first time but a little over cooked the second time giving it a chewing texture. The steamed chicken and shiitake dumplings were disappointing as it was not only a little chewy but the overwhelming flavour was of the dumpling skin than the the actual chicken.

Amazing place for simple Chinese food done well. I’m obsessed with the beef brisket noodles. They have an extensive menu that will probably have something for everyone. I like that you can order using the QR code rather than talk to someone too. I highly recommend trying a variety of dishes - there are definitely some that are better than others, so try around and see what you like. Sucks that they don’t take table bookings, so you’ve gotta get in quick to avoid queuing. Lining up is extra annoying because it’s outdoors. But I suppose the wait time is a testament to how popular and foolproof that place is. Great restaurant. 5 stars.

Very good food. The menu does not list vegetarian options but can be requested. Mapo tofu and the Shanghai noodles can be made vegetarian. Dumplings are fresh and delicious too. Quantities are big and meant for sharing.Drinks are delicious. They've got original cocktails and mocktails which I'd highly recommend.Service can be a bit slow and lacking but the food makes you for it. Gets crowded on the weekends, so best to go in early
