How I overcome Snoring & Sleep ApnoeaI’m now 58 years old (slim built) & have been a heavy snorer since young days. I didn’t care much about my snoring even though it affected my wife’s sleep every night which I was sorry but nothing I could do about it.Simply because I am not aware of Sleep Apnoea as I was not acquainted to this term all these years. All the years running up to this point had been rough. I was feeling upset, tired, irritable and angry almost every day.Until last year July 2016 when my snoring gets louder than usual, blood pressure shot up and cholesterol level reached record high. And prior to July it just got worse and the low moods and negative thoughts persisted. Then I decided to seek help & did a Home Diagnostic Sleep Study. Part of the reason for not seeking help early was because I thought I was not sick. I was hoping that with time, rest and exercise, things would improve. When I got my Sleep Study test results (01/08/2016), it showed my apnoea-hypopnea index, or AHI was 60.9 per hour. There was severe hypoxmaiea during sleep & I was diagnosed as Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. All of this played into my feelings of worthlessness & frustration, causing me to feel even more irritable & upset than I already was. Then I saw a community newspaper in Yokine suburb with advertisement on CPAP units. And I called CPAP Products @Yokine, Bernie answered my call & invited me to meet him with my Sleep Study Test results. I was given the background of Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnoea & what I should plan or do next.I was given a trial machine (Philips) and one thing leads to another. My snoring “reduced or disappeared”, my blood pressure reduced to my age group’s acceptable level & same as cholesterol level. My life turned around.Today, my AHI is less than 1 per hour & I bought a new Philips CPAP model (my insurance paid $700). Overall, I found the CPAP machine & treatment to be great for self-therapy in treating severe Snoring & Sleep Apnoea. It works for me & that is a fact which I am now sharing through this short feed-back because I was unable to make sense of how depressed severe snoring has affected me before & how unfair it was to my wife and family.Jason Theo (my personal record can be verified with CPAP Therapy Services)
