As other people said, the chips are a disappointment, pale and limp. I know there is a shortage of potatoes but we have found plenty of pubs and cafes where the chips are great. We had fish and chips ($26.50, on the website they were advertised as $22.50) there were 3 salad leaves and when we commented that there could be a touch more, we were told “it’s just a garnish”. The fish batter was a bit thick in some places. It’s a lovely pub with great atmosphere, they just need to stop blaming everyone else and try harder.

I had a meal here by myself a few weeks back and was so impressed by one of your staff members, her name was Keran her bubbly attitude filled the pub with smiles.I went to order a meal and she asked if I needed two plates (which I LOVE as most of the time I share a meal and feel bad for sharing) When I said I was eating alone and it was just for me she quickly jumped in and said “oh well if I wasn't working i’d come and sit with you” This joke made me feel so welcomed and like I had a friend. Keran went out of her way to make everyone feel welcomed at the pub and her caring nature was so present. Well done Keran, Bistro 1834 is lucky to have you there.

Great warm fire, wonderful atmosphere, and the food was nice. A bit pricey and took a while to get our food, but they were really busy. We had fish and chips and a pickle. The beer selection is not bad, and the wine selection with some local wine was pretty good, too. Dog friendly many dogs there today. It's worth a stop if you are in the southern highlands. Sorry about the photo. I remembered to take it halfway through.

Wonderful place for a relaxing meal, with all the classic pub meals on the menu. Lovely outside sitting area as well available. We enjoyed our delicious Chicken Schnitzel and Wagyu Rump meals - followed by their delicious Milo tart and sticky date pudding. Service was friendly and efficient - loved the overall atmosphere...also was dog friendly in the outside sitting area.

An old pub that really delivers across the board! The staff are amazingly friendly, the food is delicious and the portions are huge, the pours of wine are large and the outdoor area is just right. Big old pub with something for everyone. Must be on your to visit list!

Great food and amazing interior. Just what we were looking for on a road trip from Sydney. Friendly staff and interesting building. Make sure to explore the hallways of the inn - there are interesting historical artefacts to discover. Free parking, easy to reach - and not to miss once you are in lovely Berrima.

Disgusting fishWe’ve had burger ($22) and fish&chips ($26+ had to get $10 vegies as fish only comes with chps and half teaspoon of aoli)Vegies were great, 5starChips okFish Disgusting: to make it so terrible you would need to use frozen fish, day old butter, then freeze prepared fish and finally microwave. That is the only explanation on how to create such disaster out of fish filet.

OMG! You have to try the scotch fillet here. It is mouth watering tender. My wife and I would rate this as one of the top 3 steaks ever for us. The salmon fillet was also commendable, tender and juicy. The salads were full of flavour. Loved the crunchy pickled cucumber. The chips were thick and crunchy. The staff were all friendly as well. Just awesome.(Pls note this is the same venue as the Surveyor General Inn)

A warm and friendly bistro in the old pub. The staff were all very helpful. The food was wonderful and very tasty. We especially loved the house make gnocchi in rich tomato sauce with cheese and pesto. All the other offerings were equally as good. Make sure you leave room for dessert, the apple and rhubarb crumble is a must. Next time we are in town this is the first place we are heading to.
