Hi, My partner has PR (permanent) and I am on 482 work visa, if we buy our first home together, are we eligible for First home owner grant & do we get concession on stamp duty as house we are planning to buy is less than 600K.

I’m not sure it’s a good idea essentially extorting money from tax payers trying to self fund their retirement while providing shelter for the very people the government fails to provide for, in order to pay these departments that are staffed only with poorly trained people who have terrible customer service skills and no desire to serve the very people they’re extorting.I know the government love to mismanage money but if we sack these entire departments who achieve little to nothing, then exorbitantly high taxes won’t be required to then waste on individuals performing extremely poorly.The person I spoke with on the phone couldn’t even explain or justify the bill I received, offered no help or solutions, offered no information, added zero value for the extortion tax that goes to paying these individuals to not be helpful. You should all be sacked immediately.

With the Homebuilder & First Homeowner Grants combined l have been able to own a Home. Eternally grateful.

We recently got forwarded some letters received at our old address which included a land tax assessment from 6 months ago. I thought it was going to be a real hustle getting it withdrawn. But it turned out to be super easy. I just registered on the SRO website, updated my address and applied for an exemption, then the assessment was instantly withdrawn. Great to see some efficiency at the government! Well done!

Land Tax, what a load of rubbish.Currently building a house in which will be our PPR once complete but charged land tax even though it’s in the building process, you should be ashamed of yourself.Australians are doing it so tough at the moment yet the governments incompetence in managing money is resulting in every scam under the sun to fleece money from hard working peoples pockets.Your a disgrace and embarrassment to everyone doing the hard yards just to try and survive, and hence this is why people can’t stand our current government.Get a clue and stop running this country into the ground.

I have 2 properties, I have had to sell them as cannot afford land tax and rates as they have double every year. I closed on my one house in 7/2 but they are still charging me the higher amount for the 2nd property (ie based on value of 2 houses), which make a $4000 difference. Its this unlawful. I notified them last year. Requested a proper assessment. Surely this is theft and unlawful ? They also sent a friend of mine a land tax bill for her house she lived in 30 year. What is wrong with the ethic and behaviour of these people, its unconstitutional.

Most useless department. Would give zero stars if possible. They still have not acknowledged their poor efforts/no effort at all in advertising the home builder grant to those who were eligible in the first place. I'm disgusted in them. Wouldn't trust them again.

My mother had some unclaimed money (dividends). Payroll Tax, Returns, Entitlements and Strategy Branch is excellent. Kait & Suanne are both extremely helpful and prompt. Thank you for the support.

So my in-laws bought a little fibro shack on the Mornington Peninsula for less than $30,000 about 40 years ago with their hard-earned cash. The property has improved in value through no input by them (same shack) but the stamp duty is now almost $2000 a year. For a pensioner this is ridiculous, and unjust.

I have been very pleasantly surprised by the high level of customer service I have received from the SRO recently. Small things like calling me back when calls drop out and providing me with direct personal email addresses, as well as the overall telephone manner and professionalism. 4 stars only as queues can be longer than they should be. Overall however, I wish that calling all large organisations provided a similar level of customer service.
