About the Business

The George Bar & Dining | We are located at 20 Gibraltar Street Bungendore. The Hotel itself is one of Australia's oldest continuously licensed hotels, opening in 1838 as the Harp Hotel. This was just a year after Bungendore itself was established in 1837. Later in the 1800's it was also known as "Chinners". Our reputation as family orientated restaurant sees us well patronised and we strongly recommend booking via our contact form or by calling on 02 6238 0986. The GB&D has seating for 120 inside with further outdoor seating in our beer garden for approximately another 100. The beer garden also features a children’s play area. (Please note children should be supervised at all times) In the summer months our Beer Garden quickly fills over the weekend with families keen to enjoy our relaxed and informal surroundings. Tables in the garden are not generally reservable and are available on a first come first served basis. During the summer months we also have acoustic musicians/bands performing from 2pm on Sunday afternoons.

Arrived without bookings during a busy Easter Sunday lunch and the staff managed to fit us in. Food was on the pricier side but really delicious and we emerged feeling very full. Staff were fantastic and attentive and there is a log fire in the dining room.

Worth the Drive from Canberra to experience this. This is our second time eating here and the staff are so lovely we had to come back. This time it was a birthday dinner on a cold and wet winters night and 5 of us had a wonderful time in no small part because of the staff.Parking is right at the door in a quiet main street. The tables are well spacedits not to loudthere is a fireplace to sit by between coursesThe wait staff are attentive and keen to assist and we spoke with 5 different staff during the meal.Even had them check that we were ready to proceed with mains, which is a lovely personal touch.Meals where presented very well. Enough options on the menu even for fussy kids.We went overboard this time with the amount food, but wanted to try different things. We ate from the Evening and Weekend menu"If you are open to suggestions start with:SHAREBOARDSTasting Plate salt & pepper squid

We were impressed when we first dined here about a decade ago. Were very impressed with the quality of the food back then, so this weekend while driving through the area we went in for dinner too. Always geat to visit somewhere the quality has been maintained over a long period of time. The 'Lamb Shank' was magnificently tender, and the potato/pea mash, and the roast parsnips were exceptionally well matched accompaniments. My (Surf & Turf) with 300g steak, medium rare was perfectly cooked, however the 'surf' element was lacklustre, with only 4 very tiny prawns.

Good location and relaxing place but 44$ for salt and Pepper squid?Hi Lazarus,I wanted to address your response to my recent review of your restaurant. While I appreciate your attempt to defend your establishment, I must say that I found your tone to be quite rude and dismissive of my concerns. As a paying customer, I have the right to express my honest opinions and experiences, and I did so in a respectful and constructive manner. Your response, however, came across as defensive and unprofessional.Furthermore, I stand by my review that the food was overpriced and not up to par with other restaurants I have visited around Australia. The squid dish I ordered was not fresh and the cooking was subpar. It lacked side dishes and vegetables, which made it seem like an incomplete dish.I understand that running a restaurant is not an easy task, and constructive feedback can be hard to hear. However, responding with rudeness and defensiveness is not the way to address customer concerns.I hope that in the future, you will take customer feedback seriously and work to improve the quality of your food and service.Sincerely,

The food was great, although some dishes a little pricy (ie. $50 for Ribeye meal, although expensive, we did decide to splurge, for me to find out why so pricy), it was certainly a beautiful meal, but I'm not sure $50 nice. The rest of the dishes were tasty as well. The staff were exceptionally lovely and very attentive. We got to enjoy some local wine .. highly recommend the Mr V from Lark Hill, we were pleasantly surprised with this local wine, vineyard we had passed on Bungendore Rd.The only down draw, whist the restaurant itself a pleasant decor, we were inundated with flies, especially when the meals came out. We put forward a suggestion that if they have to have the windows open for Covid safe reasons, don't mind as it was a lovely breeze, just please consider adding fly screens on the windows.Otherwise great night had by all. I would recommend a visit if you are visiting the local area.

5 of us went for lunch on a cold day & it was nice to see a large open fire burning in the restaurant. The only problem was it was smokey & our clothes smelt like smoke. I don't think any staff added any logs on, so it was smouldering & became smokey. The restaurant has charm & character also has an outside area for the kids. The staff were friendly & efficient, we didn't have to wait to long for our food. There meals are big, hot & delicious, so don't eat before you go.
