Birthing You

I first made contact with Amelia through instagram. I'd just finished yet another appointment where I felt unheard, scared for my upcoming birth in the hands of medical staff. I felt pressured into doing everything they were asking of me I.e test and how I would have to give birth (even after having birthed naturally a 4.5kg baby and suddenly being told induction was the only way and the consequences I and my baby would suffer (If I didn't do what was asked of me).​I felt so alone and almost in tears. I sent Amelia a message unloading all my worries and past appointments. I was 32 weeks already and had had enough of the same scripted one size fits all appointments. Amelia was just attending a birth and had messaged me not long after I'd sent my message. She was still busy but contacted me and she had made me feel at ease straight after reading her message. She made me feel like my feelings were valid and that I needed to trust what I was feeling.The amount of care and support she provided for my second pregnancy was enormous. I felt empowered that she gave me the courage to speak up for myself and my baby. I felt aware and informed of so much that I didn't even know regarding pregnancy and birth and I'm a second time mum. I was so relaxed and happy being in Amelia's care that the day I gave birth it was the most magical moment of my life.I gave birth without induction or even a hospital. I was so relaxed I birthed our healthy (not huge like the drs expected) daughter with my husband in our bedroom before anyone could even arrive. Amelia has continued to be by my side providing care and support for my baby and I. She is an absoulute hero. The care she provides as a doula is like having a loving sister to hold your hand on the journey of motherhood. Forever grateful xx
