If you love light houses then drop in, it's a dirt road out yet nothing hard. The area is recovering from the fires however breathtaking spot. Loved it.

During a recent visit to KI we decided to venture to the Cape Borda Lighthouse. The road just after the bitumen ended was quite rough, but taking it slow was fine. The carpark was ample, and once one arrived, the self guided tour was excellent. Many information boards were easy to read and quite informative. The buildings were well looked after considering the harshness of the environment. Fascinating that the lighthouse itself is of a square construction. It must have been a challenging place to live many years ago.The walk down to the cliff top viewing area was a bit tricky as the path comprised of weathered sandstone. Not impassible, but one had to watch one’s step. The view from the lookout was spectacular. Well worth the walk.New, modern toilets were available. On our return trip, we stopped in at the Lightkeepers Cemetery. Reading the headstones was very thought provoking and sad in some instances. One young child of three years and seven months (who was a light keepers child in days of old) died after falling off a cliff. The trip there took a bit of time from Kingscote, (after a short stop for lunch overlooking Vivonne Bay), but is was well worth it.

Cape Borda Lighthouse
A really interesting lighthouse and historical buildings. There is a self-guided tour with brochures that you can pick up at the site which explain how life was for the first lighthouse keepers. Buildings not used for accommodation seem to be used just for storage now with heaps of cardboard boxes inside. There is a short walk to a lookout over the steep cliffs which is not wheelchair friendly as it’s over rocky ground. We spotted a seal and pod of dolphins but assume that might be a rare sighting. The 2020 fires came within metres of the buildings so there is no established vegetation, it’s all regenerating. Portable toilets are at the car park. Be aware that there could be patches of heavy corregation on the ~17km dirt road. We found it worse going in, rather than out. Also watch out for snakes and lizards sunning themselves on the road.

Went there while there were no tours, but still amazing to walk the trails out to the cliff, rough road getting there, allow some time, lots to see around the lighthouse, peaceful place, easy small hike to the lookout point, worth doing!

Cape Borda Lighthouse
Self guided tour is interesting, but I don't think worth the money ($6 pp). Some signs have been updated since the fires and pandemic, which I thought was a nice touch to keep info on them feeling relevant. The cliff top walk isn't really a cliff top walk.... And a walk to a cliff top. It's rocky the whole way and isn't a spectacular view, but it is interesting to see how everything near the lighthouse burned and watch it recover

Cape Borda Lighthouse
Cute lighthouse to check out with information about why it is square instead of round. Lots of old buildings still there. There is also up to date signage about the recent bushfires with aerial photography showing how close it got to the lighthouse. There is also a short walk down which I walked down about 400m. Only downsides is the very corrugated road to get to the lighthouse and the toilets were full of bees and unusable.

Self guided tour around the lighthouse and surrounding area. You typically spend around an hour here if you do a small circular walk of the lighthouse and surrounding area. There's a small shop for coffee and snacks, stunning views and the lighthouse of course! Quite a drive to get here, but a decent way to spend an hour.
