Cannot wait for the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show Dog Show.May not be quite the same without International Judges due to the Covid-19 quarantine restrictions. But a big event on the dog scene calendar nonetheless. And, a huge honour for our Australian Judges given the honour of adjudicating at this prestigious event.

It’s a mega event and takes a whole team to deliver the Royal Melbourne SHOW - the 4/5 stars is just because it’s incredibly expensive. We are a family of four kids and it’s a great tradition but just entry alone buying the early bird tickets still cost close $200 - that’s just to get in. We dropped another $450 on ride tickets that with vouchers cost a reduced price of $330. And another couple hundred on food. When just one 1) ride cost $20 each and 5 of the family went on it while dad held the show bags that was $100 gone in - wait for it - 75 seconds yes 75 seconds, staggering Isnt it. Surprisingly the show bags for reasonable value. You can get plenty of mixed lolly. Show bags with 2030 whiz fizz sticks for $5 or $10 a bag. And the famous Bertie beetle bags 3 for $12. The fancy show bags of contain wireless headphones cost about $25 a bag still reasonable value $25 parking again is an eye gouge. The biggest disappointment was the side- shows - you know the clowns and throwing the ball so it lands in the bucket, shooting basket balls, fishing fish out of a pond with a pretend fishing rod, throwing darts at balloons and winning a prize.I was staggered literally speechless to find when one of my children wanted to throw the ball into the bucket. If you get four balls in the bucket, you win a prize I was staggered to find it was $40 for 4 balls $30 for 3 the minimum cost $20 for 2 balls but of course, even if you got both balls in you only won the tiny prize wirth next to nothing. No, you have to spend $40 to have any chance to win any decent price and every person I saw fork out the big bucks all failed without a single ball staying in the bucket! It was just a shock that it was $40 for one child to a have a try - that blew me away considering the $800 we’d already spent. But rides inside shows aside, the Royal show is always about walking through the giant pavilions with all the animals, the cows, the cattle the chickens that was terrific, and the kids loved it - watching the woodchop relaxing, just having a fun time together. There was some lovely food in the food pavilions that was reasonable, but was it any wonder that no one was lining up for doughnuts when seriously the asking price for one van was $12.50 per doughnut yes no lie $12.50 for one single donut, I said them “is it any wonder there’s not a single person lining up” when every other food vendor is packed. we arrived at 10:30 am and left at 10:30 pm. After a full day. We are exhausted and ready to be home. Another “Royal Melbourne show” conquered! Or as some wise marketing person has now decided it is now called the ‘Melbourne Royal show’ clearly to emphasise Melbourne over the Royal aspect. Another tradition gone for the sake of ‘smart minds’ and their marketing.
