Fish Butchery Waterloo

Fresh & tasty, however the onion rings were too oily & battery (lighter batter or crumbed would've been better).. it'sa little overpriced, so won't be going too often. However, great concept & philosophy.

Yet another amazing eatery by Josh and Julie Niland, if only it wasn’t so far from trains and easier to get to, I’ll probably be here every week. The tuna cheeseburger is hands down the best burger I’ve had all year, and its even better than all the fancy beef burgers out there. I’d just suggest to request less sauce, it does get a bit salty/overwhelming towards the end. The fish and chips are lovely too, very nice and light batter, and I love the chips which have skin on and soft potato inside. I’m not a huge fan of the potato scallop, the potato is a little too mushed for me, but the batter was great. I loved the charcuterie and fish sausage they have. And there’s a lot of ready to heat food options in their giant fridge - ranging from soups (even laksa), to pies, to empanadas, to flavored butter. I’m so excited to try the smoked mackerel, XO Butter (octopus ++) and tuna belly pastrami we bought home. I wish I had a bigger cooler bag so I could bring more home. Of course, great tasty unique food does come with its price tag, so don’t expect cheap takeaway prices here, cos that’s not the food you’re getting either. And I’m so glad they have a few tables outside of the shop, and some chairs to sit at the counter indoors. Yay!

Been here a couple of times now, first time the batter on the fish was burnt and i had a tuna burger which was average. Went back to give it another try....$76 for two meals....a $24 tuna pita and $28 battered fish and chips (photo attached). Now i don't mind paying for something that an expert had a hand in but really $8 for a serve of raw hard chips and $8 for a kombucha. Anyways this time the fish was battered in a powdery crumbly batter which tasted awful, the tuna pita was average and tasted like tuna that has sat out for a while, both sets of chips tasted raw. Anyways twice is enough.

Tuna cheeseburger is nice.Fish and chips is great.Only three star coz very disappointed with the extra fish (paid $18) and got the only tiniest pieces compared with the fish and chips we got (not that much of price difference), totally not worth it!Plus, drinks are expensive there.

The best fish and chips I ever try. I love the batter. It is crispy, airy & taste great.Chips are unsually good here! Both the fish and the chips are superb! Will definetly come back for more fish and chips.

2nd visit for us as we went to paddington store first. Good thing about this location, it has a dining area where you can sit down and enjoy the meal. We ordered:Raw fish plate - fish was fresh and yummy but unfortunately the extra olive oil and other items don’t enhance the flavor and did the reverse. We would be happy with simple soy sauce and wasabi.Double yellowfin tuna burger- the one in paddington was more balanced. The waterloo chef put too much sauce…Swordfish souvlaki - yummyCurried school of prawns - yummy and cannot stop eating itButtermilk fried burger with flathead - batter was abit heavy. We like the one in paddington - buttermilk st helens blue eye trevella sandwich. This one was yummy.Swordfish empanada - pastry is a disappointment and filling was nothing to be desired for especially with its price tag. Major letdown and definitely will stay away from anything pastry from this shop.

Amazing fish and chips. I've never had such a beautiful batter on my fish. Chips were some of the best ever. Friend's grilled mackerel had a great flavour. Sadly only open weekends.

Pricier than your normal fish & chip shop but the quality is amazing. Loved the batter for their fish + potato scallops, light yet crispy and not too oily. Tuna burger was great too bit the extra murray cod bacon.

I think this is the best fish and chip i ever had, truly next level and the grill mackerel done well golden skin
