Grainger Museum
The Grainger Museum located at Melbourne University is a hidden gem. Stumbled upon while taking a Melbourne University walking tour. Percy Grainger was a true Aussie eccentric, genius of music composition and performance. In later life he proposed this museum to Melbourne University and supervised it's creation providing a unique range of memorabilia from his own collection. Well worth a visit.

Before my visit, I thought that music is just for leisure. The Grainger Music Museum showed me the scientific and historic aspects of music which changed my way of thinking

Well worth a visit whether you're a fan of Percy's music or not. Easy access by public transport and close to the interesting museums etc.June 2023: downgraded star rating as public access hours have been drastically reduced. A victim of the COVID-19 age and probably other expediencies.

This truly is one of Melbourne's most fascinating museums with an amazing collection of very unique musical instruments, artefacts and memorabilia including many from the highly eclectic collection of the eccentric Percy Grainger. Entry is free and the staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. If you're into music and music history then a visit to this very unique museum is perfect for you.

Cool museum hidden near Melbourne Uni Music Department. I went to see the Synthesizer exhibition in 2018, and that was epic. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate. A lovely little space with some awesome free exhibitions. Worth a look-see :)

Odd museum, created by artists own funding. Made him historically more important than the music lends to. Quite an odd chap, good to know if you are an historian of musicians.

An interesting one, especially for all those history and music lovers. A vintage collection of Musical equipment collected, owned by Percy Grainger. The collection also has scores of other items such as diaries, furniture, decorative arts, photos, clothing, correspondence. This museum was opened officially in Dec 1938. This building also has a historical significance that, it was designed by a architect called John Gawler. The building is listed in the register of the National Estate and the Victorian Heritage Register and National Trust of Australia(Victoria). The entry is free and there are some friendly staff to answer questions.
