Place is lovely. Staff rude and just wanted us to go away. Did not take order correctly, did not listen. The one coffee we did have was awful, which is a shame 'cause the gardens are really nice. Hopefully this is just a COVID experience.

Will not go here again. Went to the bakery with a friend, ordered coffees and pastries to take away. Coffee was near cold, and there was a massive blow flow in one the pastries. Threw both pastries in the rubbish. We did recall that the pastries where not covered and there where flies crawling all over them. We are locals and expected much better, service was very slow, very disappointing experience. 0/10GO TO SASSAFRAS TAVERN, the food is AMAZING and run by a local 5/5 STARS

Left hungrier than we arrived. Ridiculously overpriced for the portions of mains. I had the lamb shoulder for $32, which was mainly fat. Good flavours, just poor cuts and very stingy. My partner had the half chicken for $28, accompanied by a pathetic attempt of a side salad and strangely yellow fries. Avoids a 1 star rating by having amazing coffee and the five grain salad. This is my third below average experience. Will never eat a meal here again. Stick to their coffee and pastries only.

The grounds are so beautiful, there is honestly so much potential here and yet the place is run so poorly that I no longer can return after being a regular customer for some months. The building is gorgeous, the quirky aspects like the authentic smoker; the pigs running around at the back of the paddock; the very stylish decor and the menu appears appetizing. However, we quickly discovered that ordering is a ridiculous task. One must not place an order at the counter as it is apparently table-service, which would be fabulous if the tables were actually served! Repeatedly asking to be served and finally being answered after yelling and waving over the tables to discover the staff are absolutely awful. I'm not sure I've ever seen any of them smile before - there is absolutely no awareness of customer service. From asking what we'd like, to walking away without actually acknowledging the order to the pouty, miserable looking faces that present at the table with food when the customer doesn't realize immediately there's a staff member there (they tend to stand there and seemingly whisper out what the order is) - it is below average, it is possibly the worst service I've actually received in all my years of dining. As a customer, I have seen countless people get up and leave the restaurant due to the lack of service. There is no method, no reasoning and everyone who works there seems to be doing it begrudgingly. The orders are frequently incorrect but they absolutely insist on doing table-service despite their inability to actually do table service. They definitely have the take-away service handled so it doesn't make much sense to repeatedly tell the customers that they aren't allowed to order at the counter when it would make more sense if customers were able to order and pay at the same time and (hopefully) have food and drinks brought out (and possibly even be the right order).Having worked in, managed and trained staff in hospitality, this was a classic example of a machine that has not been maintained. I imagine there are no staff meetings at the start of the day, there's no routine and there doesn't appear to be any system: the staff are in it for themselves and themselves only.To the food - it is very average. It's bland and tastes 'wrong'. Even the fries are overcooked, under-salted and over-battered meaning they just don't taste like food at all. The burgers are awful. My children couldn't eat theirs either and I don't blame them! I was like trying to chew on rubber! The smashed avo is truly awful, it is beautifully presented yet tastes revolting, to be honest. I've sent it back to the kitchen several times and gave up at the end. There isn't any avocado flavour, tastes like avocado that's been frozen previously or possibly from a tube. It's green but it doesn't appear to be avocado. The bread is surprisingly stale a lot of the time and the coffee is not worth purchasing. As a keen barista myself, I have quite a refined palate and have plenty of experience at making coffee and training staff on equipment. The coffee beans are not very fresh (I suggest they reduce their bean bag size and use it quickly to keep it fresh, make more orders more frequently and you'll keep having fresh beans); the milk is often overheated and stretched too far (the squealing of the steamer in the milk is horrendous and it's no wonder the milk tastes and looks so average); and the coffee is ground too fine as the taste is incredibly bitter. There is also no distinguishing between a flat white, latte and cappuccino. I would highly recommend seeking a professional barista trainer to come and offer training to the staff as coffee is one of the most crucial aspects of a well-rated restaurant. As for the staff, the Burnham Beeches is on a beautiful grounds with a long history of prestigious occupants. One does not expect to go to a mansion and not be served appropriately. They need a maître d'; to let go of the casual vibe as it simply doesn't work; and to embrace a more formal vibe whilst still maintaining the customers enjoyment.

I really wanted the reviews to be wrong. They're not. Slow service. Bland food. Pre cooked, reheated food. I really really really wanted this to be a different experience. I'm not a review writer, i hate reading overly pessimistic reviews. I'm not an overly critical person on my soap box.Beautiful surrounds and building but sadly that's it.

We were very disappointed. Lovely grounds, interesting buildings but very limited and odd menu. Had to share our bench table with stools with others customers. Not very romantic for an anniversary lunch!

Pulled pork roll was a tasteless mush and the smoked lamb shoulder was tough. We waited ages to be served. We complained and the manager handled it really well. Returned the food and we left hungry but feeling OK so will try again.

I ate lunch here.Looking at the Wagyu burger in their small menu (maybe that's their niche) I envisioned this thick marble beef burger with cheese melting off the sides, sauce all around with some 'Shannon Bennett' inspiring taste and presentation. What I received was honestly below average. The bun was nice but the burger was so basic; a blob of sauce in the middle, bacon was overcooked, meat wasn't juicy and the chips... like leftovers.I honestly was disappointed. The grounds are lovely, however the staff looked out of place and confused. The best part about my visit was the coffee; one of the best coffees I've had in a while.
