We loved our stay at the Shore House - not the main building you see in the pictures which is the Pumphouse in the middle of the lake but the one at the shore and I actually prefer it because you don’t have to walk back to your room in the dark and coldness after dinner and the view from the shore includes the Pumphouse itself and the lake which I personally think is more beautiful. They also upgraded our room without an additional charge. The services, the room, the facility, the view and the food were all phenomenal. This is definitely the highlight of our trip in Tasmania. We will come back and stay longer next time!

Unique accommodation with good warm service. Breakfast is buffet style, lunch is fresh bakery sourdough with the package food you have in the room, and dinner is three-course. Breakfast and dinner take place in a communal dining area where each table seats between three to four couples. You thus get the opportunity to mingle and talk about each other’s travel and life experiences. They have a backpack to take lunch to go so that you can make the most out of your day out and about exploring the National park. Hotel had e-bikes and row boats for guest’s use. It’s 60-80 minutes walk from the property to the visitors centre along the beach. Make sure you read what’s on their website prior to booking.

Fascinating place. We had one of the bedrooms in the original pump house building out on the lake 100 yards from the shore on a concrete jetty.Bedroom lovely with incredible views out over the water.Bathroom / shower room a little quirky. Could do with improving the lack of interface between the shower and floor area by the sink / toiling.Breakfast and dinner was original and delicious. Served at larger joint tables with other guests. Nicely organized. The fridge in room was beautifully stocked with lunch items and fresh bread was available every hour - made a delicious lunch.Liked the Lake St Clair visitor center with its cafe/restaurant & hiking trails. We made use of the e-bikes to get there but unfortunately it took 4 attempts to find a working bike. Need to focus on instruction, adjust saddle height and then making sure the bike actually works ( 3 didn’t).No Wi-Fi and limited data so be prepared. Some signal with Telstra I believe.

For many years we have wanted to go to Pumphouse Point being fans of Tasmania, and having seen it pitched on Hunting for George, but once you remove the wide lens and youtube filters, the reality was fairly disappointing. It is far from a luxury stay. Its more like an up market school camp, which should be priced accordingly.Other reviews have made the same comment under previous management a couple years ago but it doesn't seem to have changed. We were shocked with the non-personalized group welcome from one of the staff who was a nice back packer but clearly not a trained hospitality professional. Once that was done, we were left to find our own room. The rooms are tired with no flare, couches and chairs stained from previous guests. Our room (Panorama) did not have a single window you could open it felt very stuffy on the first hot day - yet the standard room next to ours had a window that opened and the A/C struggled to cool it.The dining is communal - not displayed on web site, its like a mess hall. While it turned out OK and we met some friendly people, who also felt like we did disappointed and questioning the cost. Advertised as a place that purposely has no internet to relax and unwind, being forced to make small talk with strangers we'll never see again at every dinner for 2 hours, is not in line with the theme to relax and find ourselves - having the option to have private dinners (not in our room) should be offered.Food wise - breakfast was good, the larder or make your own lunch was OK (but all packaged and lacked cohesion) - the bread advertised as sourdough was not sourdough, it was chemical yeast bread that was most likely delivered partially baked and warmed-up before delivery. The Dinners was worthy of an OK cook, but not a chef, portions were big and ugly lacking polish and finesse, fish and chicken dry, bbq meat was over the top in amount and lacked finishing touches. (no quality restaurant offers doggie bags).Improvements recommended from a hospitality professional:- Remove the group check-in and offer a personalized check-in make people feel special.- Make sure all rooms have windows that open.- Clean stains from carpet, couches and chairs.- Offer daily room cleaning as a standard service, add a nespresso machine and small bluetooth speaker to each room.- Considering there is a locked wifi network, make that available to guests so we can at least download work emails in less than 20 minutes, or watch netflix for when it's raining for 4h.- Remove the communal dinners and offer couple tables.- Hire a Chef not a cook, someone who knows how to add dressing to salad, presentation of food and wants to be creative. However i really wanted to thank Josie she went above and beyond to make us feel special not a number in a group,

Despite some rain, we had a lovely 2 night stay at Pumphouse point. Beautiful food, wonderful staff and incredible scenery. If you’re an introvert come prepared with some conversations over the communal dinner! Our room in the Shorehouse was also great!

We escaped for Christmas 3 nights. Was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we arrived until we left the staff were just so good at their job. We booked a room on the second floor for the floor to ceiling windows. Loved the stocked larder and we didn't manage to eat everything. Lots of honesty bars stacked full of favourite wines and spirits. Meet some wonderful people over dinner and the food was just delicious. What a magical place.

Great location and terrific food but for the nightly price drinks should definitely be included! Wifi access should also be readily available in this post Covid world in which many of us have professional responsibilities which depend on connectivity. As adults we should have choice to connect or disconnect!
