Ross has repaired a few boards for me and always does a super professional job - he gives a clear indication of how long it’ll take (he throws a sign up if he is too busy and won’t take extra work if it means you won’t get your board back in a decent time frame).Ross has also been super helpful in getting new fins for any new mid-lengths or longboards that I’ve picked up (including adding fin boxes to a single fin I bought so it could be run as a 2+1 widowmaker setup).He has some cool boards for sale (combo of hand shaped, ‘pop outs’ and soft tops, and second hand boards.Ross also makes one of the best coffees on the coast!

Ross has shaped some boards for our family in the last few years and they are now our absolute favourites! I actually always preferentially surf my Ross custom. He has also done an excellent job with our repairs- they’ve been well-priced and colour matched when needed.

First ventured in circa 2008, in that time I’ve bought a good few second hand boards as well as having Ross fashion me two very nice custom boards (both modelled after older boards I’d bought from him before), both boards have had years of abuse from myself and friends and circumnavigated Oz a couple of times. I’ve also had numerous ding repairs from Ross and his employees and they’re always flawless, there’s a reason he’s always so busy. I move a lot with work internationally and can’t think of many establishments I’ve been to that are truer to the game than Mr. Rutherford’s shop. The coffee is brilliant and so is the wisdom, 5 stars all round. The carpark out the back is also great for a skate and a few tunes on the Gatorade saxophone.

I've had two longboards made by Ross. One for me about 7 years ago and one for my son about 4 years ago. Both boards are excellent and still going strong. Love his work and the shop has a nice cool vibe to it.

I have to be honest, across 2 years I have had no luck with this bloke, despite persevering and telling myself he was providing me a good service.The communication doesn’t exist (you have to do ALL the reaching out and prompting for updates and/or availability of blanks, or ding repairs being done). He will NOT communicate with you.I went to Ross with the hopes of getting a “Custom Shape” on two separate occasions where we drew plans and ironed out the fine details but unfortunately both boards were no where near what we had agreed on. He shrugged these off as only minor changes and me being very “particular” to the point where I felt like I was perhaps in the wrong for expecting to receive what I ordered and paid for. It is a lot of money and our pride and joy at the end of the day - surely ‘Custom’ means we can tailor things like a fin box/deck colour/logos/etc.I see he does some really nice work for some people but it seems maybe that only happens if he knows you or fancies your project. Intricately placed flowers laminated into a board for some but couldn’t provide me a board with a simple white coloured deck for instance. Ross has a good rep and I know is a good fella, but I unfortunately didn’t get that same experience.
