GCI is located at UQ Saint Lucia, in a 'Living Building' that generates more energy than it consumes and is a flagship for sustainability. The building has been designed to work with the natural environment and will operate as a zero energy and carbon neutral workplace. it is naturally ventilated, captures its own power through solar panels and stores up to 60,000L of rainwater. It is a 6 Star Green Star rated structure. Operates as a zero-energy and zero-carbon workplace designed to work with the natural environment. A 70m2 paneled greenwall is formed part of the air filtration system, allowing the greenwall to clean and purify the air, which facilitates the idea of a “living building”. The beautiful greenwall truly embodies the university’s green ethos and ongoing commitment to sustainability in research and education.
