Chichester Dam
What a excellent day we had at Chichester Dam, takes me back to my childhood. This is a excellent place for a family picnic, under the shade of the trees. There are BBQ's here and they even provide the wood to use them with, just bring a lighter or matches.Toilets are close by the picnic area and can be accessed via the ramp. No food or drink available on the dam grounds so ensure you pack your own.

Place was interesting for 10 mins. Once you've had a look off the end of the dam that's pretty much it. Nice natural view of the trees and water. Worth a look if you're in the area.

This place is quite old (the dam was completed in 1925) but it's still a great place for a picnic. There are a number of picnic areas to choose from and there are a few areas that have been modernised such as the top picnic area. So it's well worth a visit.

Nice little spot for picnic and family outings. The dam wall is also pretty amazing. Moreover, it amazes one to see how old this dam is, yet it is still an engineering marvel.

Chichester Dam
A nice spot for a picnic. While there the pathway down off the lowest picnic area is the prettiest spot on the river. The road trip up there is really beautiful. Can recommend after leaving the dam to take scenic Sugarloaf Road out to Gresford, before heading back to Newcastle.Picnic areas. Toilet facilities are best at the area near the top cottages.Closest food/drinks is Dungog.

Recently we took the children to the Chinchester Dam. You can walk down the mountain side on the stairs and path down to the Chinchester River. Or you can walk along the top of the dam wall to the edge of the spillway...There was lots of learning for the children during our visit the the dam. Chichester Dam was constructed between 1915 and 1926, Chichester Dam was the first dedicated drinking water storage system to the Lower Hunter, and to this day is considered one of the most pristine catchments in Australia.Located at the top of the Williams River catchment, it contributes around 35 per cent of the Lower Hunter’s potable water supply. There is also several facilities available at Chichester Dam include parking, toilets, covered picnic tables and wood-fired barbecues (wood is supplied by Hunter Water). The main gate is normally open:Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pmSaturday to Sunday from 8.30am to 4.30pmPark entry and use of facilities is free. The dam's emergency response alarm is tested at 10 am on a daily basis.

Waht an amazing find on our travels around Dungog. At end of a small road noticed signposts to dam, so took a look.Steeped in history, beautiful views or dam and lake.Public spaces available for viewing and picnic tables spaced along various locations going to the dam.
