Because of the helpful and friendly advice I was able to replace the thermo coupler and main valve on my furnace. It was not an easy job but as a like for like replacement I was able to perform the task. Some plumbers over the phone were able to help with the diagnostics as I was able to ask the right question. All up I paid about $500 in parts and spent two Saturdays fixing the problem. The big thing I learned is the gas to the pilot will be shut off during the warmer months of Oct to April.
