I first went to Toorale in 1974 and can still remember pulling up in front of the old homestead. I have told my boys many times of the great experiences I had there.I am so glad that it has been restored and preserved for future generations, as once these places are lost, they can never be rebuilt as they can never tell the same stories as the original structures.

I loved visiting this homestead 4 years ago.but was unable to go inside due to it having had a fire inside.the story board outside suggested that it had a massive ballroom that would host many parties in its days open to most of the distric in its day. I was in awe of all the machinery still just left to rot in the harsh elements of the Aussie bush. But given that it takes water to rust steel I predict that they will sit there for many seasons to come yet,a testement to what it takes to survive the great Australian outback.

I first went to Toorale Station about almost 30 years ago. The old original homestead that Sir Samuel McCaughey had built was in a bad state of repair. Apparently since the NSW government bought the station a few years ago, they have renovated the original homestead. I bloody well hope so. It's about time our taxes were spent on something decent. There needs to be a lot more of that sort of thing done. On a regular basis too. The property itself is obviously very typical of what you would find in this part of the country. So I certainly do feel very at home in this environment. Toorale Station has also featured in a history type documentary approx 20+ years ago. As well as the Darling river township of Louth. When you find yourself in this part of the country make sure you inquire about Toorale Station and have a look for yourself. It's a good history lesson.

Our family used to live here 57-58 years ago when my stepfather was the sheep station manager. I have great memories of living here. There used to be an orchard out the front and the shearing sheds were out the back. Mum used to cook for the shearers. I don’t have any photos.
